“$50 & cold a/c”

our room was very nice. my husband and i stayed in a corner room that had a king-sized bed. the room was very clean and large. the best part was the awesome air conditioner. we are both hot natured and you could hang ice sickles in our room---it was awesome! the hotel was very quiet and well secured. the front door has at least two bell hops/valet people there, then at 11pm the door locks and you need your room key to enter. when you enter the elevator, you need your room key to get to your floor. the bed was alright, i've had more comfortable beds at other locations, but the linens and pillows were very nice.

one thing i was not aware of and rather upset about was the $50/day "resort fee." shame on me for not assuming they would charge this, since most tourist cities have this "fee" now. i didn't know about this until the hotel overcharged my credit car for both the nightly fee and resort fee. they assure me the money will be refunded back on my card in 3 business days, but i'm still fustrated that i wasn't told about it.

all in all, the hampton inn was a great place to stay, as it usually is. close enough to all the fun new orleans spots, but far enough away to not be distured by annoying people. the cable car goes right in front of the hotel, and it only costs $3/day for unlimited use. i would reccomend this hotel to anyone, but just be aware of the resort fee.

Room Tip: ask for a corner room

This hotel is close to the French Quarter as well as many of the city's finest restaurants. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: The corner rooms are quite large and comfortable.

“Close to Restaurants and Bourbon Street”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

Only 2 blocks to beginning of Bourbon Street. Need Keys to enter elevators to rooms which is a good security feature when downtown in a major city. Excellent breakfast buffet and exercise room. I was here for business but plan to return with wife for vacation soon. During day you can exit through office building with food options.

Room Tip: Get a room facing other building and NOT facing street if you need very quiet

“A Unique Hampton Inn”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

people found this review helpful

The architecture of this building is very un-Hampton. The hotel is housed in a 1940s era brownstone that could have served as an office building or asylum in its previous life. One can easily envision Dashiell Hammett characters wandering through the lobby. The location is terrific, just a block-and-a-haIf from Canal Street. New Orleans remains one of the most distinct, and in fact, coolest, of American cities. This Hampton Inn offers a great location, free wireless, decent breakfast, and a unique ambience for the visitor to New Orleans.

“Perfect Location to walk in any direction”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

This Hampton Inn/Downtown is the perfect location to walk to the French Quarter, Harrods and the Superdome.....We were there for two nights for the National Championship Football Game, Jan 8-9, 2012..... We were greeted with snacks at the frontdesk at check-in and found our room nice and clean......

This Hampton appears to be an older hotel at one time but Hampton Inn has done a nice job in undating. Hopefully, the repairs that are needed from other reviews will be taken care of...we did not have that problem. The continental breakfast was more than just muffins, bagels but added with eggs, french toast too....Very nice....

We will definitely stay here again for the perfect location....

Room Tip: We stayed on the ninth room and did not have any noise issues.....
