We had initially booked 3 nights at the Intercontinental New Orleans (prepaid), but ended up checking out after 1 night and going to the W French Quarter. Most of the reviews on here accurately reflect the pros and cons of this property.
On the pros side, the hotel is in a great location. We had a street-facing room on the 6th floor and it was quiet, enabling us to get a great night's sleep. It is an easy and safe walk from the hotel to the French Quarter and downtown. Also, the hotel is very clean. Housekeeping did a great job, keeping the room is good condition.
The main con with this hotel is the lack of modernization. The rooms are in a very old style, which honestly is not completely bad being in a city like New Orleans. The style of the hotel is very much in tune with a "classic" New Orleans feel. Where I have an issue with this property is the old style tube tv, which is embarrassing in a so-called 4-star hotel. The hallways and elevators could also do with some updating. And on the ceiling above the shower is a disgusting vent with cobwebs and dust and mildew covering the inside. You can't close it, so it's a little scary standing under it while showering. Another drawback to this hotel is the sketchy crowd that was checking in with us. It was a really ghetto group of people (with flip-flops, PINK and JUICY shorts and rollers still in their hair). Also, there was some suspicious people lurking in the hallways. This hotel must offer some very low rates.
Eventhough, this was not a horrible hotel, we were really unimpressed and moved to the W during the second evening. This is the most old-fashioned, outdated Intercontinental I have stayed at. It's not dirty or unsafe and it doesn't have bad customer service. It just attracts a seedy crowd and needs a head-to-toe update. We definitely would not stay at this hotel again. Intercontinental needs to take a good look at this place.
