“Good location, ok hotel, but not up to intercontinental standards”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Comments that this hotel is not up to intercontinental standards is spot on. The lobby is fine, and the bathrooms are nice, but the rooms are very small with dated decor. The staff were helpful overall, although they did send my luggage to another guest's room, which I addressed with the management.

They do charge extra for internet, which is common in business hotels, as they expect you to expense it anyway, I think. There is free wi fi in the lobby. Overall, if you get a good deal, it is worth it. However, I was expecting it to be up to other intercontinentals I have been in (which are normally very modern, i think) and it was not.

I grew up in New Orleans, know the city well and this is the hotel we usually stay in when we return.
Good location, great services.

“Poor service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

The pro of this hotel is that it is close to the french quarter. On the down site, they charge extra for parking (common in the area) and wifi (less common). The room was clean enough but looked worn. The main issue with the stay was that the key to our room did not work and the staff refused to move us to a different room be cause apparently none were available. We could only get a different room if we paid extra for an upgrade. The were asking more than double the original rate just so we could get a working key. Rather poor form on the part of the staff when they obviously had empty rooms to keep us stranded in the room we couldn't open.

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere

Great staff, very helpful at check in and with suggestions. Even loaned us an umbrella when it was raining.

Hotel is showing age and the walls are paper thin. You are in New Orleans and people are yelling at us through our walls telling us we are being too loud.

Hotel was right off Canal, which is close to everything. Bourbon St was literally a 5 minute walk. French Market was only about 10 minutes.

I was only here for a short stay but was overall satisfied with the service

“Older Hotel....Don't Expect Much”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

We had initially booked 3 nights at the Intercontinental New Orleans (prepaid), but ended up checking out after 1 night and going to the W French Quarter. Most of the reviews on here accurately reflect the pros and cons of this property.

On the pros side, the hotel is in a great location. We had a street-facing room on the 6th floor and it was quiet, enabling us to get a great night's sleep. It is an easy and safe walk from the hotel to the French Quarter and downtown. Also, the hotel is very clean. Housekeeping did a great job, keeping the room is good condition.

The main con with this hotel is the lack of modernization. The rooms are in a very old style, which honestly is not completely bad being in a city like New Orleans. The style of the hotel is very much in tune with a "classic" New Orleans feel. Where I have an issue with this property is the old style tube tv, which is embarrassing in a so-called 4-star hotel. The hallways and elevators could also do with some updating. And on the ceiling above the shower is a disgusting vent with cobwebs and dust and mildew covering the inside. You can't close it, so it's a little scary standing under it while showering. Another drawback to this hotel is the sketchy crowd that was checking in with us. It was a really ghetto group of people (with flip-flops, PINK and JUICY shorts and rollers still in their hair). Also, there was some suspicious people lurking in the hallways. This hotel must offer some very low rates.

Eventhough, this was not a horrible hotel, we were really unimpressed and moved to the W during the second evening. This is the most old-fashioned, outdated Intercontinental I have stayed at. It's not dirty or unsafe and it doesn't have bad customer service. It just attracts a seedy crowd and needs a head-to-toe update. We definitely would not stay at this hotel again. Intercontinental needs to take a good look at this place.
