“Good Value, Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2011

I stayed at this hotel during a visit to my son who attends the University of Wisconsin. The hotel is located right next to campus and right on State Street, the hot spot in town for shops and restaurants. The free parking so close to campus can't be beat. You can walk to anywhere on campus, all up and down State Street, to the Capital, Farmer's Market and Downtown! The rooms were recently updated with new bedding and carpet. The staff, most likely students from the university were very polite and helpful. It had everything you could possibly need. They do not offer a free breakfast but I recommend the Sunroom Cafe just across the street which offers simple, affordable breakfast items. The only complaint I could come up with is that the stairways had a bad smell (just take the elevator) and I would prefer to have a latch or chain on the inside of the door.

“Basic but comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2011

I have stayed for two nights in University Inn, and found it really comfortable for short stay. The place is in a great location, right next to campus and capitol. But a little bit noisy during weekend nights.

“Basic but Ideal for a short stay in Madison”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2011

I have stayed at various hotel in madison and I found perfect for short stay. I usually go for weekends and they have a very good rate. Right in the center of town and have a free parking as well. The look of the hotel is very 70s and bunker like but the upside is that the rooms are clean and large. Tiny windows yes but again I never spend much time in my room.
Bathroom is basic but again clean and functional. Now here is a tip, when booking your room ask to face the parking lot as the main street is noisy with all the bars and students ...
I used to pay about $100 a/night and I think this is a very good deal.

Room Tip: facing parking lot

“Dirty and feels like a frat boy house.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2011

This place is in a great location, but the hotel is dirty and feels like a frat boy house.
The walls are thin and the hotel is loud. The carpets felt wet, and the metal door had splashes of god knows what on it from god knows when. It just felt dirty.

The basics are taken care of, and the linens were clean, as was the bathroom. But the 1980's bed covers really grossed me out.
There were huge, oversized mattress covers on the box springs, which although seems like a great precaution, just really made me think there must have been some kind of recent bedbug problem or something. I think if they were fitted, and the room didn't feel so dirty, I may not have thought twice about it.

The front desk and lobby area are charming, and the staff here is nice. But I don't think I'd stay here again, if you paid me...

Room Tip: Don't do it.

“Good Hotel in Lively Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 June 2011

An affordable, clean hotel in a good central location with lots of life nearby. It was just a little on the noisy side but not too bad for a city centre on a Saturday night.
