“Only pluses were a free drink and proximity to Great Dane”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

My husband & I stayed at this motel along with some other friends the weekend of the Great Taste of the Midwest. The motel is next door to the Great Dane Pub which has a shuttle to the festival. Location wise it was fine. A cab to downtown didn't take to terribly long, but wasn't cheap. Hotwire includes this hotel, which is in Fitchburg, in its downtown area. While it isn't terribly far from downtown, it's not downtown at all. If looking for Downtown be aware that this hotel is included in the zone.

Upon arrival we parked close to the front door and checked in. The hotel has two buildings, one that's all rooms, and a second across an above ground walkway that has some rooms along with meeting rooms & a restaurant. We didn't eat at the restaurant, but we did use the Happy Hour free drink coupons we got from the front desk. The bartender was friendly enough. Our room was in the main building on the third floor. The rooms are large, but not in a useful way. There was a lot of wasted space in our room. A chair or two with a table would have helped it be less awkward.

My first gripe was that the room had a very strong cleaning supply smell and the windows don't open. Eventually I got used to the smell, but I really hate when a room has a horrid chemical smell. While the bed was comfortable, the room itself wasn't in great shape. It wasn't necessarily dirty, just starting to look worn out. It's the type of hotel that used a lot of cheap materials and age hasn't been kind. The tub had stains, the floor tiles were separating at the grout lines, the sink had cracks in it, the bathroom door threshold was cracked, etc. The bathroom light was an exhaust fan/light combo. The fan was so loud I couldn't hear anything from outside the bathroom. Even while brushing my hair my husband had to stand right next to me or the fan drowned him out. Annoying.

The employees at the front desk were friendly. Housekeeping wasn't annoying. The location was great for what we needed it for. I just really didn't like the rooms. I probably wouldn't suggest this motel to friends unless there's a really good deal. For what we paid we probably should have paid a bit more and stayed closer to downtown.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

the rooms were clean and big and the staff awesome.
You are in walking distance of about 4 places to eat..... so you don't need to
drive when you get there.

“Nice property and amenities, a little pricey”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2011

Stayed the night of "Taste of the Midwest" beer tasting with my brother and booked the room through Hotwire, which indicated that this was a room in the Capital area in Madison - this is NOT the case, it's in Fitchburg so if you see a 2.5 star property for about $113 with availability on a busy weekend, it's probably this hotel.

The Good

The hotel staff were friendly and did provide us with a room with two queens, as they originally had us in a single king room and didn't have to make the change. The manager was working when we checked out and he was very friendly.

The room included a full breakfast, and a free drink per person.

The pool and hot tub were nice.

It's conveniently located to some great restaurants, and we ate at Liliana's - a New Orleans themed eatery about a minute walk. The Great Dane is also close.

The climate control was good in the room, and had an option to keep the fan running (I like the white noise)

Sink outside the bathroom - yay

The could be better

Price - I wouldn't pay more than $100 for this property, and can normally get into the Sheraton on John Nolan for about $90 so may not go back.

Linens - Somewhat thin sheets and towels. A little scratchy...

Shower - wasn't really impressed with the shower head and layout.

Location - again - it's not that close to downtown so I wouldn't consider it a Capital area hotel.

No fridge or microwave

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with the experience as the reviews were pretty blah. Because there is a shuttle for the event that dropped us back at the Great Dane, that was also a big benefit.

“Very Nice Stay”

My family and I stayed at the Quality Inn on Cahill Main recently and it was a nice visit. The staff was very nice. The free breakfast was good. The kids enjoyed the pool area. We had a two room suite and it was reasonably priced. Overall good stay.

“Epic training? Read this review”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2010

My colleagues and I were in the Madison, WI area for training at the Epic Headquarters in Verona. On our previous trip, we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Verona, and we were very pleased with all aspects of that property. This time around, we stayed at the Quality Inn - Madison, and we were very disappointed. First, there is only 1 trip in the morning and 1 trip in the evening to Epic in Verona. When we stayed at the Holiday Inn, there were several trips, several times per day, and you can also walk to and from Epic if you are not physically challenged. Also, the rooms at the Quality Inn had a strange odor - almost like they were smoking rooms at one time but now are non-smoking. The walls and light fixtures had a yellow caste to them, which is another thing that made me think this was a smoking room at one time. It was very noisy there as well, being so close to the highway. The only advantage to the Quality Inn was that the hotel shuttle will take you into downtown Madison if you want to go for an excursion (the Holiday Inn is too far from downtown and will not bring you there).
So if you are going into the Madison area for Epic training, stay in Verona. If you are going to Madison for U of W or any other reason, stay IN downtown Madison, not on the outskirts.
