We stayed at this hotel to celebrate our 5 year wedding anniversary in October. I haven't gotten around to writing a review prior to this simply because our overall experience was less than good--some the hotel's fault--some hotels.com fault.
Ok, so we arrived at the hotel, checkin was great. We had booked through hotels.com, and booked a room with a jacuzzi in the room. We get to the room, no jacuzzi. I booked this room solely on the fact that it had a jacuzzi in the room, and paid quite a bit more for the room based on the knowledge there would be a jacuzzi in the room. I inquired at the front desk about this, and they advised me since I booked through hotels.com, I would have to deal with them. Well, we had a busy night planned that included dinner and going to the Badger hockey game, so I wasn't about to stop right there and call them. We went out, got back to the hotel around 11pm, and decided to go and sit in the hot tub down by the pool since it was open until midnight. We changed into our suits, and got down to the pool area around 11:15 pm on a Friday night. We tried the door, and it is locked. My husband inquires at the front desk, and the front desk employee tells him she closed it early since no one was in there, but she would be glad to open it early in the morning. Ok, we are already in our suits and the pool is supposed to be open until midnight. My husband politely asked if it would be possible to open it tonight since it was supposed to be open and there was no way we were going to be up earlier than it was supposed to open in the morning. She did end up opening it for us. We were joined by 3 young men about 5 minutes after she opened it. We sat in the hot tub until midnight, and proceeded up to our room, where I rinsed out our swimsuits and we went to bed. We could hear the tv through the walls in the room next door, but it wasn't too bad.
We woke up in the morning, and I went in to the bathroom where our swimsuits were hanging to dry, and imagine my surprise when my husband's lime green swim trunks were now a bright yellow and splotchy and my brown swimsuit was several different shades of brown (neither swimsuit was brand new and both were high quality swimsuits.) I went down to the front desk to speak to to them about it thinking that maybe when the girl closed the pool early she had put chemicals in there and that was caused the issues to our swimsuits. The girl at the front desk said it was impossible it was their chemicals because their system was automated (um technology fails all of the time) and no one else had complained about it (it was 8am, give them time). I was less than thrilled with her answer, and even less thrilled that she thought giving me a $5 off coupon or a room upgrade on our next stay made it all better. Our swimsuits are unwearable, and the cost of those 2 swimsuits when bought new was over $60.
When I went back to our room after being disappointed, I went to take a shower, and the shower had hair all over in it. On top of this, the cleaning staff was banging on the door next to ours so loudly that I thought it was our door. I went to check, and they were banging on the door next to ours, which continued for 10 minutes. They stopped, and then 30 minutes later they were banging on the door again. Not a pleasant morning at the hotel.
Not all things were bad---the room was very spacious, and the bed was very comfortable. I also used the workout facilities, and while not up to par for a gym, very acceptable for hotel facilities. Unfortunately, we will not be staying at this hotel again--simply because there are nicer hotels in Madison for a cheaper rate, and with much better customer service.
