For the price it would seem to be a budget motel, and it is, but was perfectly adequate for our needs, clean, and very pleasant to stay here. I especially liked the free (fresh!)coffee and tea available 24 hours, and free wi-fi available. The lobby was very inviting if you want to hang out there. They have a computer available for guests in the lobby too.
Free parking, and reasonably priced snacks in the lobby are available too, such as ice cream and frozen pizza (a toaster oven is there too). Free breakfast til 930am but we slept in every day.
Our room had new carpet and the furniture was elegant and up to date. We even had a microwave & fridge in-room, which was an added bonus. The staff was always courteous and available if needed.
The only drawbacks are that the walls are a little thin, so we once heard housekeeping vacuuming nearby in the morning, but we never heard a lot of noise otherwise, except there is some freeway noise due to the location. We don't have trouble sleeping usually but if you are a light sleeper this could be an issue. Another drawback was the beds weren't as plush as I like, nor were the pillows. We probably could have asked for extra pillows, but we didn't.
There is a Perkins restaurant right next door, and an IHOP down the street, as well as quite a few other restaurants within walking distance. East Towne Mall is nearby also.
Overall for the price, this is a good value. Some nearby hotels were twice as much and some did not have free parking either. Madison is a fun little city, and it is not too difficult to get from place to place here. Select Inn was a good homebase for us to stay.
