“Excellent stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

I stayed during the last week of January and had a great stay. Check-in was easy and the associates were very accommodating. The Hotel is very clean, and my room was clean and very comfortable. When I travel, I'm particular about quiet rooms, comfortable beds and pillows, as well as a nice shower. All were satisfied. Breakfast was great and the underground parking, especially in inclimate weather was nice. The views from the rooms are awesome, to the west the State Capital Dome and to the East, Lake Monona. What a great view to retire for the evening and wake in the morning to. Nice stay.

“Great Hotel for a Quick Visit to Madison”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

This hotel has all that it needs - proximity to the Capitol, extremely close to Monona Terrace, good food, and clean rooms. I stayed here for one night and have no complaints. The rooms need updating, but it appears as if they will be doing that soon, and I was pleased that, as a Hilton Honors member, I was able to receive a free bottle of water (hey, it's the small touches that count!)

Parking is convenient and the rooms are clean. There is a free shuttle to the airport. This is the only place I will stay in Madison. Try it - you'll like it.

Room Tip: Try to get a room at the end of the hallway with a view of the lake

I am so glad you enjoyed yourself during your short trip to Madison. We are indeed in the process of renovating the entire hotel right now and anticipate the project will be finished in Spring 2012. We are honored to be the only hotel in Madison for you and look forward to your next visit in a newly renovated guest room! Sincerely, David Buss, Assistant Front Office Manager

“Great Facility that has benefits”

The Hilton is a great place. It's close to the Capital and walking distance to great eateries and fun shops. My stay was great as normal until I got home and realized I forgot my cell phone charger in my room. I took the chance and called the Madison Hilton. I was forwarded to housekeeping and nice woman on the phone checked and said that my charger was in lost and found. She said I could either stop back or they would mail it to me. Since I live a couple of hours away I asked if they could send it. I was expecting when it arrived to my house it would arrive c.o.d. In my eyes the $5 - $10 to have sent to me was worth it. When it arrived there was no payment needed. Yes price, cleanliness, and location drive us to choosing a location but great customer service keeps us coming back! So the Madison Hilton I'll be back!

Room Tip: My room was 812 and had a beautiful view of the capital!

“Hilton Honors or Horrors?”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

Incompetent Staff, Poor Service. As an executive with a large telecommunication firm I will review this internally as well to ensure Hilton does not keep our account.

Customer service starts with setting expectations, then delivering. If you make a mistake, then it's all about how you recover. The staff did none of these well at all. Including the management who is neither qualified nor empowered to do the right thing.

My reservation was mishandled, promises made by the staff that then were not kept, even after being acknowledged.

The rooms are not worth the rate, the amenities are minimal. The Hilton rests that they have a good location for downtown. Then they fall off every other category because of a lack of effort.

If you need downtown locations, I encourage you to try the Concourse Hotel.

I won't spend money at a Hilton again. Hilton Honors should be renamed Hilton Horrors.

Room Tip: Try the Concourse instead. Good location, better service....

Thank you for taking the time to share your comments on TripAdvisor. I’m sorry we were unable to accommodate you when your trip needed to be extended. As we are in a prime location in downtown Madison, our availability is constantly changing, and we often sell out very quickly. Had the request to extend the reservation been made upon check-in, we would certainly have done so at that time. It is never our policy to hold aside rooms for any reason, however. I do apologize that when an attempt was made to extend the reservation several days later, we were completely sold out and unable to honor that request. We do strive to accommodate 100% of our guests, but sellout situations frequently occur at our property. Sincerely, David Buss, Assistant Front Office Manager

“Could have been better....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Upon arrival, it took forever to get checked into the hotel. Our room was nice as we had gotten the king size bed with whirlpool. Upon draining the whirlpool bath, the drain made a horrible and extremely loud noise and didn't want to drain properly unless I used one of the soap dishes to hold the plunger portion open. Was quite annoying especially when we were trying to go to sleep & then had to wait as it was that loud. Also, just after 9am, housekeeping came knocking on our door, and when we didn't get to the door right away, proceeded to help themselves to walk in. A co-worker had also had this exact same experience in her room (we were here for our company Holiday Party). If my husband hadn't hollered out "what do you want", she would have wallked all the way in!!. I've never had a hotel do this before especially when check out isn't until noon!! You would think that the front desk would tell housekeeping what rooms have checked out in order to know which ones to clean! This was VERY unorganized and to me quite rude, to say the least.
