“Very nice facility”

I'm a little puzzled about the reviews for this hotel as we stayed for one night a couple of weeks ago on our way to Arizona and found it to be very nice. We had a very large room with a mico/fridge and the room was very clean. The breakfast was one of the best we have had with a variety of breakfast items. It was better than most. We travel about once a month so this facility was among one of the nicer ones we have found. There was a restaurant right next door and a Denny's next door to it. The staff was very accommodating and the manager was at the front desk when we checked out and he was very friendly and he appeared to interact with his staff in a very positive way. He was very upbeat and, in my opinion, an asset to that hotel. We will definitely stay there the next time we go through Cortez which will be in another couple of months.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a micro/fridge as all rooms do not have them.

“Big room but that's about it.”

The only good thing about this place is that the room is HUGE. But it's old, and like other reviewers, it needs some major updating. The staff is super friendly. The beds are old and rickety but passable. The vent in the fan was disgusting. My boyfriend pulled it out and it was basically black with dust and dirt. We cleaned it out ourselves in order to make the AC work properly. The cleaning staff really need to work on details when vacuuming. We dropped something near the headboard and when I reached down to grab it, I saw that the back was filled with lots of dust and dirt and a couple of old tissues. The entire room just had a dingy feeling to it, from the carpet to the pillows to the bedsheets. I wasn't at ease staying here and couldn't really sleep the entire night.

“Dirty, broken and bad value”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

We stayed at this property one night in late September 2011, during a three week Colorado road trip. This was the worse property we experienced. We were told that the only rooms available were jacuzzi king suites and the best available rate was $129/ night. We were also told that this was the AAA rate although this is more then what is in the AAA book.
The room was tired appearing and smelled stale, the bedspread did not look fresh and had spots or stains on it. The TV was old (see photo) and did not have good picture quality. The jacuzzi had a large crack that appeared to have been previously repaired but the crack extended a couple of inches beyond the repair. See photo. We were concerned that the tub would leak and the hygienic risks of using a jacuzzi with a large crack. We stopped at the front desk on our way out to dinner to draw attention to the fact that the jacuzzi was cracked and our concerns about using it. Staff said they would send someone to look at it when they were able to. We asked that they do this when we were back in the room and agreed to let them know when we returned. When we returned an hour later we were told that they had gone to the room while we were out, had checked the tub and that it was "just a surface crack and should be OK to use". This did not reassure us. We spoke to the man who checked us out the next morning and who identified himself as the manager, stating that we were disappointed that although we were charged for a jacuzzi room, we could not use the jacuzzi because of the crack and that staff had gone into the room while we were out despite agreeing to wait until our return. He was rude.

“An Average Hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

I was in Cortez with my wife and stayed here for one night during 2nd week October 2011. We were traveling to Telluride, Silverton and Durango round trip on San Juan Skyway.

The hotel is at a very nice, noise free beautiful, non-congested location towards end, but within many general facilities such as Restaurants, if you need shopping mall like Safeway and Wal-Mart etc of the charming city of Cortez. The hotel has 3 levels.

It is also just next to Hwy 145 to Telluride and just 10 mins drive from the Mesa Verde National Park entrance.

The room was spacious, bear and clean. Bathroom was ok; no complain.

Staff was good and helpful, the hotel served normal B/F.

But we had a terrible time in the room due to very strong smell; seemingly some kind of insecticide or something sprayed in the room. We could not sleep as even linen was soaked with the smell.

Another negative factor; there was No Fridge and No Microwave which is, for us, a must. We really felt that we should have selected the next door brand instead of this hotel.

Considering the many relative advantages that the hotel possesses the management could seriously think about adding the above few things which will make a big difference for the guests’ convenience and also massive value addition to the property.

In our case we will Not return to this hotel.

“Better than Reviews Read”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2011

We were a littel worried about our stay here as it had mixed reviews. We stayed in numerous hotels on our road trip & can say this was one of the best (other hotels also decent standard). The staff were helpful, the room was large, comfortable, quiet & ample parking was available.

The pool was clean & quiet so almost had to myself for over half an hour & the breakfast selection was excellent.

I would highly recommend staying here the only downside was it was the last hotel in the town so had a 5/10 min walk to nearest restaurant but was worth it for the price paid (c£60/ night). Copared to dumps in the UK especially London where you will pay £90 ($140) for a small heap I seriously believe the bad reviews are a case of spolit for choice of good hotels.

Mesa Verde was amazing and the staff are really enthusiatic & helpful.

Room Tip: Room at the back of the hotel was great
