“We'll Be Back”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2011

If you want to get lost from the outside world for a few days, this is as good a place as any to go to. No internet or TV to speak of, but a beautiful setting at the doorstep of the Canyon of the Ancients. Plenty of Anasazi ruins to hike to among the alcoves & cliffs that the Southwest is famous for. In addition to the sites on or close by Kelly Place itself, the Sand Canyon trail head is just two miles down the road and Hovenweep is just a short drive away. It's not as posh as some, but the scenery, courtyard, & balconies make sitting outside very pleasurable. If you're lucky enough, you're there when experts on the area's history & culture present free evening programs. If you must run off to civilization, the town of Cortez is only 10 miles (and a world) away. In addition, a very respectable winery is halfway between the two. We stayed four nights, had a great time, & plan on returning in the future.

“Another wonderful visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

We always enjoy our stays at Kelly Place. It is a great location, and we love being able to hike into Canyon of the Ancients right from their back door. We love the archeological aspect of the place. I always bring home extra homemade granola, which is wonderful. We'll be back!

Room Tip: If you want a little more space to spread out, go for the Casa.

“Good but restrictive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2011

Great place, as others have said, a must for archaeology buffs! The owners are friendly. But the 4PM check-in is a bit extreme, especially when they charge $50 extra for an earlier arrival. It's a B&B, some flexibility would be nice. But what was even more inconvenient was the buffet-style breakfast served between 7:30 and 8:30 only. I mean, that's a bit restrictive! It's not food made to order, either, in which case I might understand. But the breakfast was just sitting out. The scrambled eggs were cold and spongy from sitting under a heat lamp by 8AM anyway! The rest is breads, granola (good homemade) granola BTW) and is served in the common area--so why not leave it out for guests who aren't early birds? These owner-centric rather than guest-centric policies were strange esp in a B&B context. Also it's worth noting that there is no hairdryer (bad for cold weather + long hair) and the internet didn't work at all while we were there. These are all relatively minor issues, though, and should not deter one from staying on this lovely property. It's practically in the Canyon of the Ancients.

“Excellent B&B in a very interesting surrounding”

We stayed two nights in this very nice B&B. The room was very good, and the breakfast was great! A lot of things to chose from, including home made dishes. The atmospher was very friendly. In addition, it was fantastic to just walk stright out into the mountains behind, with historical ruins. If we would return to the area, we would certainly stay there again. And we warmly recommend the Kelly place for someone who likes a cosy, generous B&B, and the nature surrounding it.

“Quiet and peaceful beyond belief”

I loved staying at Kelly Place! It was so quiet and peaceful, with direct access to great hiking in the canyons. Excellent full hot breakfast every morning, and wonderful hosts Mark and Jenene made me feel so welcomed. Met other interesting travelers as well. Hope to go back again sometime, and meet there with friends, do some more great hikes and relax in the comfortable patio with a view of Ute Mountain.
