We made reservations for a 5 day stay and only stayed there for 20 minutes. Yes, it was that bad. The room had cigerrette burns and stains on the carpet, water damage and peeling paint in the bathroom, the tub had enamal worn away, and the room had a terrible smell of deodorizer that burned my throat after about 5 minutes. If you have allergies or sensativity to prefumes, stay away from this place. We requested another room, which was no better and when we removed the pillow cases it had yellow saliva stains on every pillow. There was no manager on site until the following moring and the representative was not helpful. We checked in around 3pm and refused to stay there. We left after 20 minutes and in the parking lot was some guy loitering sharpening his MACHETE. The stairway is open for anyone to walk around in and it smelled like urine. The pool looks more like a big water fountain and the water slide that they advertise is made of concrete. The place is no value at all. We found an extended stay hotel about 1 mile away for only $10.00 more per night and it was very clean, comfortable, had a functioning kithenette, pots and pans, secured building, workout room, and stocked pantry. We learned a valuable lesson. Always read hotel reviews and make sure you know what the cancellation and refund policy is for the hotel. The Howard Johnson had a non-refundable policy since we booked in advance. We were able to get it cancelled, with much persistence. Also, Howard Johnson's Corp. headquarters can't do a thing for you because each location is independantly owned.
