We were staying with a group for a wedding. Upon arrival the front desk person was unable to find my reservation despite my confirmation number. They finally located my name but said I had only reserved Saturday night. That was my first inclination we were making a mistake...my sister had arrived prior and was at Walmart purchasing air freshener for everyone as she had already scoped out 4 of the many rooms and realized the odor was terrible, that was the second inclination to leave. When we stepped into our room it reaked of cat urine, carpet was sopping wet in front of the bathroom, I went to change rooms and they did offer me another room but my husband had realized other family from Florida was in the room adjacent to ours and did not want to move so I brought up a thick beachtowel from my car and put it down in front of the bathroom but it was quickly soaking wet, I went to Walgreens and bought incontinent pads and lined the walkway in our room and purchased an Airwick battery operated air freshener which did little to mask the horrible smell. The walkways on the second floor were swaying and the plywood was curling up through the outdoor carpet, there were holes in the walls, the shower in my niece's room (the bride) stopped working, the elevator was broken near the rooms we were assigned, the reason we stayed had to do with being all together with our family who had traveled from 6 different states and we did get to utilize the roomy outdoor balcony space on the 2nd floor after the wedding and reception which was ironically next to the hotel sign advertising "new rooms", where these new rooms were located remains a mystery to me. Our sheets and bedding WERE clean (amazing). The Health dept would condemn the place if they visited room 214 and took a walk around the 2nd floor catwalks and walkways. I felt sorry for the front desk person as we watched several people ask for a refund and leave. My sister and I are nurses and while accustomed to some foul odors, certainly do not expect to find these in a hotel where you are spending money to have a clean, pleasant room for the night. I felt like I had been on an episode of Fear Factor except our "team" did not win $50,000 for enduring our gross stunt in staying in this place.
