This was a last minute reservation on a busy friday night with not much else to choose from. I was delightfully surprized by the vintage lobby with many antique touches: old wood panelling, a midlobby fountain, 40's style check-in desk, lots of cozy leather couches; none of the glitz of the Arlington down the street but plenty of the charm. Every employee of the hotel I met was courteous, smiling and helpful. The room was adequate,esp in the Aug heat, the AC worked fine. The beds were comfortable, but the linens smelled of some strange detergent that was hard to ignore as I tried to sleep. My teenagers esp liked the balcony and the very cold pool. The complimentary donuts,fruit, and coffee were a nice touch. This hotel looks like it is getting the slow overhaul it desparately needs and I would definately come stay again to see the upgrade.

Stayed in this hotel 2 nights for a hoopfet basketball tournament. Made reservations and stayed my 2 nights. Returned home and took a look at my bank statement..When the hotel clerk swiped my card, there were charges totaling $525 being held (mind you these were not available for use). I called this hotel 5 different times and noone was able to tell me what the charges were for. And asking for the hotel general manager is a JOKE! Until this day he has not returned a call...

It was a horrible hotel. We tried 3 different rooms to find one with working AC. Nothing. Had to use the service elevator- scary. Main elevators were being cleaned. LOL they have been getting cleaned for 6 months. No pool. All I can say is dont waist your time. Bullet hole in the window. We went to the American quality inn and found it cheaper and and very nice. To the Pretty Blond Ladie who worked the front desk. Do yourself a favor and get a job with another hotel. You are very good at what you do. Dont waist yor talent at the Rose. Dig a hole and push the hotel into it. NOW. Its a discrace to Hot Springs.

Judging from these reviews, this place is a horror show. Or maybe it's just really gone downhill in the past 3 years. I stayed here 3 years ago while traveling cross country with 2 kids and a big dog, and thought it was fine. The staff could not have been nicer or more accommodating, and our room was pleasant and clean. We arrived very late on a hot June day and they had held our reservation without a problem. Starving, we ordered room service and a nice older gentleman brought us our food within 25 minutes. The bathroom was very clean (this is a deal breaker for me) and I did not notice any bad smells or stains or the usual bad hotel stuff. The parking was fine - big garage off the street. I had thought it was a pretty decent value, and believe me, I have not always had great experiences staying in hotels that allow pets (Americas Best Value in Youngstown Ohio was particularly horrific!). I'm sorry to hear of others' bad experiences, but for our family, the Velda Rose was actually a pleasant place to stay. Maybe we got one of the remodeled room, or had a decent manager that day. In any case, I'm glad we were able to avoid the nastiness.
