“faded elegance”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

This hotel is a cracked reflection of itself in times gone by, with faded and well-worn "country house" style furnishings, photos of past guests and celebrations on the walls, dark wood panelling and fabulous flower arrangements. You can almost hear the echoes of its former heydays.
Our bedroom was spacious and clean, albeit that the furnishings were of a fifties style. The bathroom was definitely in need of a make-over, with a badly fitting window frame and lighting that tripped when the kettle was put on in the bedroom. One visit from a man with a screwdriver showed us how to reset the tripped fuse for ourselves after that! No need for air-con here, set up in the highlands it was cool and refreshing of an evening and our room was provided with an efficient, free-standing electric heater. We even heard of some guests having hot-water bottles in their beds after the evening "turn down" service! There was some noise at night-barking stray dogs, unexplained creaks and the call to prayer early in the morning (the hotel is just on the edge of town.)
The evening set menu was of an amazing high standard and breakfast was fabulous. Staff were relaxed and friendly and provided excellent service.
The town with all it's bustle of daily life, markets etc is just a short walk away and well worth visiting for bargains galore (don't forget to haggle).

Room Tip: Mabe try to get a room overlooking the gardens at the front.

Dear Guest,

I would like to thank you for the time you have spent on this review on your stay at Jetwing St. Andrew’s. With our old colonial presence, antique wooden furniture and personalized service we have become as comfortable as home to most of our valuable guests. The Jetwing family has always been strongly attached to the environment and community which provides a unique experience for our guests. We receive a high number of guest comments on how fantastic the history is of Jetwing St. Andrew’s and keeping that in mind we have projected major renovations soon after the current season is over to rejuvenate and revitalize this beautiful property.

We are very glad that your experience up in the highlands has been special as expected by you and we have really enjoyed having your valuable comments as it means a lot to us on our operational implementations. We do hope to see you again once the renovations are complete.

“Excellent hotel!”

We stayed at the hotel as part of a thomson tour of sri lanka. Stayed for one night and i loved it. The decor, grounds and rooms are all original in an old englannd..... very 'english'. I can't remember the last in hotel in England I stayed in as original as this. The gardens were fantastic with traditional metal furniture and well cared for lawns and shrubs, I very nice place to have a drink. The service was excellent and the evening meal I very much enjoyed. The wine list was moderately priced.
I would have liked to have spent a few more days there, however, we had to move location. I would recommend a stay.

“Old world charm”

Old world charm with old world amenities.Stayed for a night here and loved the old English colonial atmosphere, reminded me of the army mess I stayed in as a child. The rooms seem to have been renovated as have the bathrooms, but the flush tank in ours gave a bit of problem, pointed this out but none came to have a dekko.Walls are thin so any talk can be heard in the passages and in the next roomThe food was presented well ,fine dining style, pretty average in taste, but portions could be a bit bigger. The garden is great to sit in in the morning sun,I wish the staff had been a bit more responsive.

“Old colonial hotel and it shows”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

Arrived late afternoon and we had a warm soup for the welcome drink(even if somewhat cracked and chipped cup and saucers)We were given the 2 suites (family with two teenagers) which were really like staying in a old english home.Metal four poster beds, creaky floors, free standing wardrobes and even a victorian style desk with a mirror!
The service from the staff was really good but the hotel is in need of TLC.In the rooms we had the shower glass door hinges brocken, mould in the bathroom window, flaking paint on the shower floor(yes it was painted black!) damaged light shades, dusty over bed canopy to name a few.As for the main building itself the corridors couldnt be more depressing and the carpet was rather dirty and smelly.Had dinner in the restaurant with the fantastic ceiling and service but the food was rather limited and the "display"was poor. The highlight was the pool bar opposite the "lounge" which had all the walls signed by the guests and with that i mean all of the walls and all the guests. This hotel is a good base to tour the area and if you want to see the old england (worn old england) look this is the place for you.

Room Tip: The suites were definately the best rooms

Dear Guest,

While thanking you for your review on Trip Advisor I would like to apologize for all inconveniences faced at Jetwing St. Andrews. As a team we put our fullest effort to provide our best personalized service to make our guests happy during their stay. Your comments on the food have been shared with the Chef and all comments on the property have been noted.

You will be pleased to note that Jetwing St. Andrew’s will be going into major renovations in the coming few months. Soon the property will be rejuvenated and revitalized. But we will make sure to protect all delicate areas of the property which has the colonial touch, on the request of most of our valued guests.

Thank you for bringing these concerns to our attention. We do hope that once the renovation is complete, you will once again return to Jetwing St. Andrew’s.

We wish you all the best.

Sincerely,
