This hotel is a cracked reflection of itself in times gone by, with faded and well-worn "country house" style furnishings, photos of past guests and celebrations on the walls, dark wood panelling and fabulous flower arrangements. You can almost hear the echoes of its former heydays.
Our bedroom was spacious and clean, albeit that the furnishings were of a fifties style. The bathroom was definitely in need of a make-over, with a badly fitting window frame and lighting that tripped when the kettle was put on in the bedroom. One visit from a man with a screwdriver showed us how to reset the tripped fuse for ourselves after that! No need for air-con here, set up in the highlands it was cool and refreshing of an evening and our room was provided with an efficient, free-standing electric heater. We even heard of some guests having hot-water bottles in their beds after the evening "turn down" service! There was some noise at night-barking stray dogs, unexplained creaks and the call to prayer early in the morning (the hotel is just on the edge of town.)
The evening set menu was of an amazing high standard and breakfast was fabulous. Staff were relaxed and friendly and provided excellent service.
The town with all it's bustle of daily life, markets etc is just a short walk away and well worth visiting for bargains galore (don't forget to haggle).
