We stayed here for our one year anniversary and had such a romantic time. My husband completely surprised me with a wonderful evening and topped it all off with a quiet and relaxing evening at the Hawthorn. This home is completely traditional and historic and extremely clean. We enjoyed looking at the old photo books of the original owners. Jim and Wendy have done an amazing job with the restoration and detail in every room. We stayed in the Evans room and loved how comfortable the bed was! Jim "wowed" us with a excellent 3 course breakfast that was more than enough! We were so full we could have went back to bed! The recipes were unique and very fall festive for the changing seasons! Same goes for the all over decorations in the house, we would love to come back and see it at Christmas time. Truly a stay to remember, that you so much for making our day so much more special.

Hawthorn is a meticulously maintained bed and breakfast. The accommodations were excellent. We especially appreciated that the hosts accommodated our late arrival (came by train). There were two drawbacks. One is that it is a $75 cab ride to the airport. The other is that Hawthorn has a $25 cancellation fee. We changed from three nights to two nights with over three weeks notice but were still charged the fee. We haven't encountered that kind of cancellation policy in our many years of travel.

My husband and I stayed at the Hawthorn for a long weekend trip to Kansas City. We were very pleased with our stay and can't say enough how wonderful Jim and Wendy are! They were very helpful and really made us feel as if we were their only guests that weekend. The breakfast was amazing and very filling! The scones are to die for! Jim is quite the cook! I recommend this lovely B&B to anyone wanting a relaxing stay in Kansas City. We had no issues getting from the B&B to the attractions we wanted to see. The home-baked cookies we found in our room the first night were a pleasant and delicious surprise! Stay at Hawthorn...you won't regret it!

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Hawthorn Inn. My room, the Evans, was
extremely clean, well organized, smartly furnished and included wi-fi! The Innkeepers, Jim and Wendy were welcoming and very helpful. Their suggestions for sites-to-see around Independence, as well as where to have dinner were perfect! I stayed two nights and both breakfasts were delightful. This is not a skimpy continental breakfast, but a full, wonderfully prepared meal! I can assure you, you won't leave hungry! The Inn is a fabulous value, and its location makes it ideal for travel to Independence, Kansas City and surrounding areas.
