“Enjoyable but needs work.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

We stayed at BNG for a 4D3N trip to Bali and it was quite a lovely experience - though marred by a few details.

The hotel staff were very friendly and obliging - right from ferrying us with a big umbrella from the cab to the lobby, making sure our breakfast was always ready to cheerfully arranging our dinners+massages. They were accomodating to our late checkout which we really appreciated. I liked the hospitality as well as the privacy the villa offered (quite far from the main road as well as some lovely paddy fields surrounding the estate) but there were improvements to be made for sure.

Having stayed at other villas in Bali, this villa was most certainly one of the older ones. The walls and hinges of the villa were moldy. Though there was a private pool (we stayed in a single room villa) - the water was often murky and the living area sandy/not well kept.

My main gripe was with the bathroom. Though I loved the open concept of the bathroom - it meant that water splattered in all over the toiletries and towels when it rained. Also, the BUGS. I accept that with all outdoor bathing facilities, there will be bugs BUT the situation in the evening/night is out of control. There were no less than 50 BIG FLIES, 4 FAT LIZARDS (1 dead under the door hinge) + various other flying insects along the bathtub wall. The lack of a separate shower was also something that could be improved upon - because we genuinely could not bring ourselves to shower in a bathtub filled with broken wings and spluttering insects. The insects could not be chased away even with spraying water, and as we asked the villa staff to take care of it - they did spray it when it went out but the situation is terrible at night. They could look into having retractable blinds/shades to keep the situation under control.

It was not a bad experience, but could be better. I would probably return only if they did some maintanence work around the compound as well as fixed the bug issue.

Stayed in this villa for 4 nights.Almost everything about the place is excellent.
Due to money transfer issues between banks advance booking payment did not reach the hotel. They honored my booking and asked me to pay on arrival. Very nice of the hotel.
Positives: The villas are very nice, neatly maintained, excellent value for money. Staff excellent and almost always anticipated your requirement. We enjoyed the private pool and the very natural settings.

Access: The hotel is bit away from Kerobokan and may be a bit difficult to reach at times. Since we had our own transport arrangements, we did not use the hotel facilities and can not comment on the transport services from and to the villa.

To Improve: Food needs definite improvement especially BF need more options. My suggestion would be try to have your lunch and dinner outside

Open bath concept is good, but be careful when you are with kids.

Overall.. very nice and very good value for money.

“An enjoyable stay in Nyuh Gading Bali”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

My boyfriend and I went to Bali for the period from 24 October 2011 to 28 October 2011. Prior to our travel date, I had gone to an intensive research on where I want to stay. Many friends recommended Nyuh Gading Villa and so, I went through a lot of forums and write- ups on this place. I was quite concerned when I saw quite a fair of disturbing information (e.g. old and ageing room, dirty pool) about this villa. Yet in the end, I decided to trust my friends.

After booking the room, I emailed the villa on the airport transfer arrangement and special request on newer room and clean pool. They replied within 12hours giving me the assurance that they do ensure the rooms as good as new and the pool clean.

When I reached there, they told me the 1-bedroom villas were occupied and they will place us in a 2-bedrooms villa. To us, we liked their flexibility to accommodate us despite what I have read that they will ask the customers to source for other villas. The pool, room, bathroom and dining area were clean. Shower and taps were running fine. The only dismay we had was, there was no stopper for the bathtub and we could not soak in the bath.

Throughout the stay, the staff had been extremely helpful to our requests which run to bringing us the insect repellent & bottle opener, suggestions of places to visit, arrangement of transports to areas e.g. Kuta and JImbaran. In addition, all the staff wore a smile all day long. They are just so friendly! They had even try to cook the food I wanted :)

There is free shuttle service to Legian and Seminyak and you just need to inform the counter 1 hour before departing. In addition, should you want to travel to other areas, you can make arrangement with the villa and they will send you there at a nominal fee. We have ordered in- house massage. The waiting time for the masseuses to arrive is around 1.5hours. It is cheaper as compared to the services in massage parlour. We have the massage on the floor (of course, lying on a mattress). I was quite disappointed then as I thought we could have the massage in one of the pavilions outside the villa.

We had an enjoyable time. The place is very tranquil and we can just stay in the villa, eating our meals, take a stroll outside the villa looking at the Balinese countryside with rice fields and it is very relaxing. We will definitely return to this villa.

“My honest opinion”

Just returned from our 3 night stay at BNG. Overall, BNG is a property which has seen better days. Having said that, as theirs is an aging property, they need to spruce up in keeping it clean and meticulously maintained more so than newer ones.

We travelled to Bali many times and having staying in Kuta and Ubud previously, we wanted to stay close to Seminyak for simple R&R without the touristy sight seeing this round. Our Villa was number 11 (behind the reception) with an attached indoor bathroom. Our flight was delayed and we arrived late in the evening and hence a good shower was so necessary.

The first thing we noticed was the sewage, mothball stench and free flying mosquitos in the bathroom. There was no separate bathtub and shower area so if you need a shower, stand in the bathtub. The tub was not clean and the shower head holder had a missing screw. There was no shower curtain separating the tub and toilet so expect everything to get wet. The pebbles were a nightmare, it served no aesthetic or functional purpose except that the stagnant water trapped in-between the pebbles may have potential for mosquito breeding. Since the closet was situated in the bathroom and we couldnt bear the smell neither the bugs, we hung our clothes in the main bedroom. The washing basin tap was not functioning properly, it was dispensing perpetual HOT water whichever way we turned it. Not to mention that the basin needed a scrub too.

The bedroom was basic and cleanliness was okay with no mossies (we kept the bathroom and main door closed at all times). Am not sure what was used to clean the wood flooring cause it was slippery.

Outdoor living area had mossies too but lesser in quantity compared to those in the bathroom. Not impressed with the black sythetic leather sofa set as we saw stains and dust on them. The electric kettle had a layer of dust on them too. We washed it twice before using. TV is only available in the bedroom and WIFI in the outdoor living area. So no TV watching in outdoor area and no internet surfing in the bedroom. Thats a shame cause I enjoyed doing both.

We ate rather standard breakfast when we travel, nothing extragavant nor exotic. Just simple eggs, bacon, sausages, toast, waffles and cereals. Guess what? Bacon, waffles and cereals are not in the breakfast menu. I had to ask for bacon strips which they obliged but no waffles and cereals. Having breakfast served in Villa means that you have to forgive cold food and lukewarm coffee. Of course, the staff may also missed out replenishing your sugar/salt/pepper sachets.

The pool was REALLY deep. The middle portion measured 1.75m while the far end was a least 2m. The sun bathing deck needed cleaning and maintenace, The wooden stand looked rotten (there were dark specks). No, we didnt touch it. The pool though was still swimmable if you do not mind dead leaves lying in the bottom of the pool.

Getting around was easy as the villa will help booked a taxi when their in house driver was off duty. Cabbles around Seminyak area knew the location of the villa and no trouble for them to bring you back.

For the novelty of private pool in a landscaped environment and in villa breakfast without minding the mossies, sewage stench and general cleanliness. Its stayable. But for us, we will not return.

“Great; Big Rooms, but Small Private Pool and Living Room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

I really loved this place in 2010 and wanted to book in 2011 but rates have increased. The Villa location is close to main attractions such as Kuta Beach but there is no walking activities around the property. However, it is still smart choice to stay there and enjoy a vacation or honey moon. We were supposed to have free airport transportation but no car was available !

Private pool and living room for one bedroom villa were fine in size, but small for the two bedroom villa. BNG consists of only 9 Villas.
