“Not reccomended”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2010

The photos on their website very misleading - the actual property was not very spacious, clean or tidy. Our room was double booked when we arrived. We were offered a smaller hut with no apology. The hut was very disappointing and the upper floor near the entrance felt like it might give way. The kitchen looked really dirty - i certainly wouldn't eat there. I wouldn't recommend this at all.

“mixed feelings”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 June 2010

We stayed in 6 hotels during our last trip and this was the most expensive (apart from a suite in Ubud) - also the least value for money.

We loved the situation, the village, the locals, the local restaurants which were very good BUT Lumbung Damuh seems to be in serious need of some TLC.

We stayed in the superior cottage close the beach and it was a beautiful little spot, but little things made a big dfference. No glasses, no soap, towels which I would have thrown out years ago. The downstairs part of the cottage was dirty - I,m not overly fussy or have a problem with a bit of dust but I just wasn,t happy sitting on the day bed.

We saw the owner a couple of times but she never made a effort to speak to us or even acknowledge us. It seems a real shame that such a gem seems to be falling by the wayside.

“Unique place, comfortable, accommodating, charming but.........”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 April 2010

I was recommended this place by friends who gave it high marks. We were surprised by the uniqueness and setting. The owner contacted us several times and made sure we were coming and guaranteed us the room we asked for which we got ( the superior room in front-it is really nice). The owners weren't there at the time so we were greeted by a very nice caretaker who made sure we were accommodated. The only real beef I have is that when we arrived several people (friends?locals?) were hanging out in front right in front of the entrance, literally, having a little party. So we had to go around them to get to the sidewalk entrance-it was obvious they were having a mid-day drink-hey fine, no problem, I love a good party too. But then when we wandered up the street that night for dinner we came back and there were even more folks around, obviously pretty loaded by now. Again they blocked our way to get through and I felt almost like we were interrupting the drinking party in order to get in/go through. I would think that if they cared about making somewhat of a decent impression they wouldn't make their guests feel like they were interrupting their private party. They even asked my companion if he would like to join them (hey how about me?). Our caretaker by now was polluted. Yet the next day he was there to greet us with coffee, tea and breakfast. He did go out of his way to make sure we were taken care of. Just the weird entrance blocking and the slight snickering was off putting. Other than that, the place was one of the most unique places I have ever been. (I would just run my business a little different)

*Oh and don't expect the neighbors next door to be quiet in the morning-they are up with the roosters!

“A big disappointment”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2010

With such great reviews we gave it a go.
Arranged pick up from airport and arrived at 1am.
We were directed to a very small thached elevated hut at the rear of the property (not beachfront). After a very long day we went to bed which was located the middle of the hut.
In fact the bed took up nearly all the foor space and I couldn't even stand up without hitting the roof.
Next morning I said to Made that we had booked the bungalow overlooking the sea.
Made confirmed this and said the people occupying our bungalow would be relocating that day. Didn't happen and we spent another night in the hut.
We finally relocated on day 3 to accommodation we booked 3 months before and confirmed by owner a few days before arrival.
Yes, the seaside accommodation was good. Nice outdoor bathroom, plenty of room and furnishings to relax and a very large bedroom above.
I got the feeling that the owners had lost interest in their property and there is no excuse for double booking. No apology, no goodbye. As reported in other reviews it is Made that keeps this property ticking along. A good man.
Note: This location has a really nice feel to it. A small coastal village a very friendly locals. Their was 2 restu. up the side road but only one was open at the time.
The beach has no sand, rocks only but sand comes and goes over the year.
Sea water dirty but it was the rainy season.

“A very relaxing place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2009

Lumbung Damuh is a lovely small place to stay. We had the Superior Lumbung which faces the beach and the view and breeze was excellent. Cost 400,000rp per night including breakfast (internet rate). This is the largest lumbung. Made who works here is a lovely man who goes out of his way to help. He organized our washing, (35,000rp), transport and came in at 5am the day we left to make us breakfast. We tipped him well. Lempot the owner is a lovely man as well and we spent time talking with him. His wife Tania was away so we missed out on meeting her. Our lumbung had a beautiful downstairs bale and semi outdoor bathroom which was huge. A staircase leads upstairs to the sleeping area, a door then closes which completes the floor. This lumbung would not be suitable for people with toddlers or those with problems negotiating steps. Our child is 5 and managed the stairs well but we were cautious with the floor situation and also the small balcony upstairs which had a very low railing. This balcony is the place to sit and watch the ocean. What a beautiful place to relax. The lumbung is not air conditioned but the sea breeze more than makes up for this. We were not hot at all. Mosquitoes can get into the room so use the mosquito nets. There is a small fridge which has some soft drink and beer. The room is basic and it had an extra single bed. The lumbungs are in a beautiful tropical setting and provide an alternative to staying in a hotel. We strolled up to Normans Cafe which is about a 3 minute walk from the lumbung. This is a popular warung which prepares babi guling every tuesday night. If you want to experience somewhere different to stay on your holiday then Damuh provides this. Some restaurants in Candi Dasa provide free transport so take advantage of this when you want to eat out. There are local bemos on the main road and also drivers who wait near the entrance of the lumbung.
