I am completely surprised that ANYONE with the ability to see and think could possibly recommend this place to anyone for many reasons.
If you do not care about the exploitation of animals and merely want a a lovely hotel, this place is a waste of money.. the rooms are old, tired and honestly require work! The mattress smelled odd, the pool looked dingy and the food was not good. I can say that this was the only hotel that did not offer fresh fruit drinks, instead you had fruit juice from syrup. I think that already says a lot about a hotels ability to provide quality, when they can't even provide real juice when fruit is so abundant!
For those that have children with special needs and look forward to this location so that it provides therapy for your child,PLEASE reconsider!! I have worked as an advocate for children with special needs over ten years and I know and understand the struggles that the children and families face. This place is exploiting and mistreating animals. Just as you want your children to be treated fairly and would never want your children (that are many times unable to communicate) to be mistreated or abused, you MUST consider the troubles you face and empathize with these animals and that they are being taken advantage of and given a bad treatment. This place has no VET, and I highly doubt they have anyone that is educated in Autism or any other specialty. This place is like the videos the Germans sent out to the world about the concentration camps they held, making them seem like it was all fun and games with well fed people, yet reality was different story. Behind the scenes its nothing but exploitation. The cages are small and dirty, The animals despite their different needs receive the cheapest of foods, carrots and on certain occasions papaya or whatever a merciful tourists gives them. Most animals here are suffering with premature cataracts, feel free to research the link between poor diets and cataracts in animals via Google. They even have a small alligator in a small showcase with no space to move in the dining section.
My husband and I arrived early morning at this hotel (2:00 a.m.) by accident, as we walked to our rooms, the guide pointed us to the dolphin area, I slowed down and I peeked over the fence to where 2 of the dolphins were located. I have traveled to many places in which Dolphins are held captive, I have never seen dolphins in a complete stand still. When I got up at 7:00 a.m. I headed straight to the the dolphins. I went in to the private area even though a lady tried to stop me. The Dolphin Handlers met with me and were pretty nice. They have a total of five dolphins, two young ones which are the show dolphins that are in a front pool, they seem semi- healthy and swim around, in the back are two malnourished dolphins these were lethargic most of the times that I observed them (2:00 a.m., 7:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m.). I was able to see the "handlers" feed them a couple bits of fish, the dolphins are not very responsive. I also saw how they just throw the bleach powder into the pools even getting on the Dolphin. I did see the two lethargic dolphins interact with tourists, they will do all the tricks that they have to do, but they soon go back to a depressive state. These dolphins are said to have been rescued, but are still in no sanctuary!
Some animals seem to be doing okay, but the River Otters, Dolphins, Small Gator and Monkeys are truly in a dismal state.
For the love of anything good. Please do not support this place! If you have children, please teach them some decency and DO NOT SUPPORT THIS PLACE. The only recommendation this place should get is to get shut down and the owners to be fined and kicked out of Bali!
I did attempt to speak to the so called P.R. guy, he was rude and frankly reminded me of an Con who escaped to Bali.
