“Fabulous small resort for relaxing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

Four of us stayed here in a double and twin room that are part of the same stand alone building for two nights in August. We had a fabulous time and hardly left the resort because it was so relaxing. Our rooms were spotless and tastefully decorated. The best part by far is the outdoor seating area with ocean view. I would like to have the lighting stronger out there so that I could keep reading once the sun went down but this wasn't a big deal. Breakfast options are very good and I think the kitchen's strongest suit. We had all of our meals except for one at the resort. Meals in the restaurant are good, not great, but satisfying enough. There are vegetarian and kid options. I think the menu prices are a bit high all things considered. I would probably eat out more if I stayed there again. The owners have two resident ducks waddling around, including in the swimming pool, but they are not an issue and in fact quite fun to see. Pool area is one of the great selling points of this hotel as it is an infinity pool looking out to the ocean (and some power lines but that can't be helped). There was usually a deck chair and plenty of shade available even though it was peak season. My only gripe would be similar to other reviewers, it's not that I am against paying upfront for all of my room charges, it is more the manner in which the staff member treated us. We were happy to pay immediately but our bags with our cash had been carried up the hill to our villa by some porters so we had to go into our bags to get the cash to be able to pay. The staff member treated us as though we were thieves and trying to do something shifty which we weren't and would only let us up to our room after much explanation/convincing that we needed to go there to get our cash. It was quite bizarre and in all of my travels I haven't really experienced anything similar. It's a shame because it leaves such a bad taste in your mouth as a first impression but otherwise I would highly recommend this resort to everyone as everything else is great. For those who dive, it's a short drive up to Tulamben where we dove at the Liberty wreck site which was a fantastic experience.

“great staff and restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2011

we stayed four nights in room 6. Clean spacious room nice outside chill area. Staff lovely very helpful. Restaurant really good .Pool very welcome respite from the heat .We did hear some nocturnal activity along roof and found some droppings of what we dont know, told staff and they dealt with it. Amed has some great snorkeling but you probably need a moped or car to get around all the spots on offer. We think its definitely worth a stay here.

“Total relaxation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2011

My husband and I recently spent 5 nights at this beautiful resort. The bungalow was spacious and the bathroom gorgeous. We made great use of the outdoor daybed / sitting area, which had a lovely view out to sea. The bed has a mosquito net and they also supply insect spray just in case, although I only got bitten once during our stay which is quite unusual for me as I am generally a mozzie magnet!
The gardens are stunning, restaurant great and the pool area is nice also. We ate at the restaurant a few times and the food was delicious, presentation better than many restaurants back home (Western Australia). They make a great margarita as well. The staff were all very friendly and happy to assist with organising transport, dinner at other restaurants etc.
Little touches such as fresh watermelon juice on arrival, turning the bed down with a chocolate and flower left on the pillow, cold glasses in the mini bar, insect spray, choice of breakfast options (included in the price) not just the same thing everyday were the things we really appreciated and what makes Anda Amed a bit more special. All for a fantastic price too.
Organising a pick up from Sanur was no problem at all, likewise the return trip to Denpasar airport and our driver was wonderful too.
We enjoyed some great snorkelling and diving in the area whilst there. If you are happy to go off during the day and then relax around the pool or "your" bungalows outdoor area during the afternoon then Anda Amed is perfect. If you want somewhere to lie on the beach sun-baking and walk to other places nearby then this probably isn't the spot for you.

“A lucky find...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2011

Coming to Amed was an unplanned part of our holiday and our choice of hotel was purely pot luck, but it turned out to be one of the best parts of our trip. We were staying in the Gili Islands and wanted to move on early, so I emailed a couple of hotels in Amed that I found in the guidebook and booked the first one that got back with availability. The internet was down most of the time, so I couldn't do my usual trawl of reviews on tripadvisor, but we were more than happy with what we found at Anda Amed. I probably wouldn't have chosen it if we'd read through all the reviews, which goes to show you shouldn't rely too heavily on what others have to say!

I am glad however that I had read somewhere about being asked to pay up front for the room - it still galled a bit to be treated like you're planning a midnight bunk and I made sure we checked out the room before we agreed to pay. Surely if they take your credit card number when you check in, they shouldn't need to do this?

Having said this the room was lovely - Villa 9, which was a steep climb to the very top of the resort, but the payback with the view out over the bay was spectacular. The room was spotless, small and contemporary and cooled by an efficient aircon. The bathroom was lovely with a good supply of hot water and a rather unnecessary bathtub. Not much storage, but we weren't staying long. Might be a problem if you want to hang everything up, as there is the usual hotel drought of hangers but this is hardly a major crime! The bed was super comfy with a well designed mossie net, comfy pillows and a view out to the sea and horizon to die for!

The outside sitting area had a whitewashed table and chairs and brightly cushioned daybed, which was fantastic for lazing in the shade, watching the boats sail past. Could have done with a bit more light outside for reading at night and the bedside lights were a bit dim too, but we managed to rig up the lights in the bathroom so they lit up the seating area outside.

The staff were all friendly, food good and pool and gardens attractive and well maintained. I had a vicious attack of food poisoning while there (not the fault of the hotel) and the staff were all concerened and helpful, supplying me with an effective local medicine. It was the only time that I regretted the room - and more importantly - the bathroom, being such a steep climb up from the rest of the resort! They also sorted us out a scooter and transport to our next destination without fuss. Not sure what happened to the 2 ducks everyone else referred to in their reviews - maybe eaten for dinner for the 2 cats that have taken up residence in the restaurant!

We briefly met the owner on the last evening - she seems quite a force of nature - having seemingly set the place up on her own and certainly makes her presence felt when she's about.

Amed itself was a great relief after Gili Trawangan, which we didn't like much at all. It's really just a string of small villages, protected bays and exposed headlands, spread out for about 10 km along a narrow and winding coast road. There seems to be a good a selection of small inns, hotels, restaurants and dive stores to suit all budgets, but it's all very low key and has none of the frenetic hype we found on Gili T. The snorkelling was fantastic in all of the places we tried and the coral and fish life seemed abundant and healthy. It's a bit of a trek to get there, but that's what keeps it from being overrun with tourists and preserves it's charm. Long may it last!

Altogether we had a lovely stay and would definately go back for a longer visit.

Room Tip: If youdon't mind the climb choose a room at the top - views are spectacular from your bed!

We do ask for payment at the beginning of your stay, because as mentioned in one person's review we have had people disapear without paying. It is not possible in our area of Bali just to take a copy of the a credit card and then deduct payment should there be a problem. Also taking a photocopy of a passport would also not be of much help. The legal system here in Bali does not operate or work in the same way it does in other countries. I am sorry if this is a problem for some people, I know that most people are completely honest. However we are a very small resort and cannot afford to loose income, it also affects the wages of the staff as they do get a percentage of room prices.

“Lovely, but a bit of a climb!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

I recently stayed 2 nights in this small but lovely hotel. The rooms are built in a mediterranean rather than balinese style. My room ( number 11) was the most recently built, and was a steep climb up winding paths. The bedroom was huge, as was the bathroom. Had a seperate shower and bathtub. Unfortunately I couldn't get any hot water for the tub... which was a shame, as I quite fancied a bit of a wallow! No shower gel provided, but small sachets of shampoo/conditioner and soap were provided. Ample towels, and a huge mozzie net runs around the beds, Plenty of hangers and drawer space, mini fridge and good air con.
I ate at the restaurant one evening, and the food was very good.
The hotel provides flash lights which are needed to navigate around the property at night , especially if your room is some distance up from reception. The paths around the rooms have all been planted with lush and very well tended gardens, adding a sense of privacy to the rooms, all of which have excellent days beds with cushions.
I thoroughly enjoyed my two days here, the pool may be small, but the staff, views and quietness are wonderful. But note, not all rooms have the guarenteed 360 degree views, so would recommend asking specifically for rooms with uninterrupted views. The stairs/paths may present some people with mobility problems.

Room Tip: If you have mobility issues, ask for a room nearer the reception/pool area.
