“Serene, idyllic and peaceful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 December 2011

Maria heritage is an excellent place to relax, unwind and have some good time. It's done tastefully keeping tradition yet modern amenities in view. With breath taking view of rich green paddy fields on one side and back waters on the other and amidst a good place to relax was a great experience.

Food was traditional and at guests service, very neat and spacious rooms.. We look forWard to going back some time again !

Room Tip: Water heater would take time as its a solar!

“Best ever!”

I stayed at Maria Heritage Homes and Spa togehter with some friends during our stay in Pulicunno when we were invited for a friend's wedding. I must say that this was one of the best places I have ever stayed at! The location is stunning, between a bright green rice field and one of the backwater channels. The rooms are simple but spotless clean, and we had hot water all the time. Rema, the manager, was the perfect hostess and she really made us feel like her own family - helping us dressing up in saris for the wedding, we could choose whenever we wanted to have our meals in the beautiful decorated main house, she helped us arranging canoe trips and transportations to Kochi, and was always keen on giving us the best service I can imagine. The food was great - local specialities that you could really feel was made with love, and beer was available upon request if you ordered it some hours in advance. I would definately retur if I am in the area, and would recommend this to anyone visiting Alleppey with surroundings. Thanks, Rema and staff, for an excellent stay!!!

Room Tip: Main building rooms are bigger than the annex, but I stayed in the annex and it was fine as well!

“perfect heritage place to feel good”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 December 2011

I am travelling to India since 25 years and on my last visit I spent one night only at MH, a place with excellent Keralan Heritage atmosphere. This wonderful old-traditional Keralan home stay with so many antique furniture and marvellous stylish items invites everybody who has this special sense for beauty, history and the soul of things to relax, enjoy the ambience in the typical quietness of the backwaters at the village of Pulincunno. The family like MH-home stay with only few rooms (fortunately), where the warm-hearted, caring and reliable staff really makes you feel comfortable anticipating one’s wishes, also offers an exchange with other interested travel guests. An excellent Keralan cuisine completes everything perfectly. Moreover MH acts charitable supporting the nearby orphanage and other projects, which is not at all surprising for me. I am happy to having experienced that gracious living with spirit and dedication.

Dear Kausik,
Thank you for your response, however it is unfortunate that you and your family did not enjoy our Homestay experience.
Just as the categorisation of the property, this is a homestay, which means travellers come here to experience the comforts of a home and its people rather than a resort / hotel's more commercial atmosphere. I try to offer the comforts of a home in a modern setting with the help of family, neighbours whom we have employed.
We are sorry to say that my home does not have a intercom facility, which i believe is the case with almost all homes, anywhere! ;-)
Its discomforting to know that your room and bedsheets were not clean, while the other families that stayed there the same time..had clean rooms and more importantly a great time..
Again being a homestay and not a resort, we aim to offer a homely gourmet experience rather than the offerings of a restaurant...;-) so having said that staying at a home means that you experience home cooked food and what the household makes at home (which i know has quite a variety of choices) rather than demand your choice of food ?
Its unfortunate that you did not get to enjoy this beautiful Kerala state and forget everythingelse, while 100s others have and continue to do so....
Wish you the best..

“First-hand experience of nature & Indian tradition”

Everything was explicitly wonderful from the airport transfer to the service and the food. It was like being welcomed into a cosy home of your own. The resort is located two to three hours from the airport (depends on traffic), but even so, we enjoyed the ride as we were well 'guided' around. It was our first visit to kerala, and we booked 2 rooms. The rooms are clean, spacious and well ventilated. Meals were served in original keral cuisine, and the talented chef (Mr. Raju) presented us with whatever we requested - non spicy/ veg/ seafood, etc. The manager - Mrs. Rema specially took care that we were comfortable at all times and arranged the country boat trip, motor boat trip, and a "walk-trip" (courtesy Mrs. Raji) & ofcourse Mr. Rajesh took us sightseeing in the Innova car. The resort is placed beautifully in a lush garden decked with seasonal fruit trees and we were free to choose our fruits whenever we fancied, and Mr. Jimmy was everyready to help at our beck and call. Ideal for families and groups who would like to relax away from city-life and unwind in a homely atmosphere. Our package included a 5 day stay with meals, sighseeing trip and ayurvedic massage for 2 people. My compliments to the staff, especially Mrs. Rema who went out of her way in arrangements, providing us amenities, advising us on the heritage of kerala as well as the various herbs and ayurvedic treatments and even arranged for their pick-up.
