The best thing about this hotel is its design. The rooms are structured such that all the rooms have one extra bed for a child and a separate pantry and bathroom. The pantry and bathroom are connected to the room but separated by door. It has very tastefully done up interiors. The accommodation is in the form of beautiful cottages and each cottage has two rooms. The two rooms are interconnected so that if you are a small group it is an advantage.
The resort is located on the opposite side of the beach. It is very important to note this because when someone says beach resort we are used to thinking that the resort leads to beach. Here we need to cross the road and walk upto the beach, which could be almost 400 m. So the resort is not on the beach but opposite to it.
Spa and swimming pool, both are just serving the purpose. The swimming pool has warm & clean water but there is no pool for kids and even not enough tubes, which was disappointing for the children. Even for adults it wasn’t great as this pool is just from 4 ft to 5ft deep. Towels weren’t readily available and we had to wait for them. Frankly all these are very trivial issues and such things keep happening everywhere, and given the Christmas week we expected all that.
They have a system where they change the linen only when you ask for it. A nice reminder is kept in your room, “You don’t inherit the earth from your forefathers, you borrow it from your children” meaning avoid unnecessary washings etc., so they would change the towels and linen only if you ask for it. A nice practice but in an attempt to keep the earth green their towels have become grey . 50% of the towels we got had become grey or off white. Only one was shining white, the way you would like. Barring this point everything else about the room in this resort is great.
Coming to service, may be because we stayed there during the Christmas week and the hotel was full there were delays in service. Otherwise the staff was polite and hospital.
Food – The in-house preparation was good. We had lunch (paid) and breakfast (complimentary) – the rates were reasonable and food was tasty. For the breakfast too, they had good variety and both south and north Indian cuisines were tasty.
But the so called New Year Night gala-dinner which was imposed on us as compulsory was very disappointing. We had booked our rooms through Makemytrip and they charged us Rs. 750 per head for this gala dinner, on the top of that we also paid Rs. 500 per room as New year charges to the hotel. But the gala dinner had limited options for vegetarians and even the taste was ordinary, compared to the lunch and breakfast. It seems that when they went on to make it special they lost their original touch of culinary art. The worst part was that the Veg and Non-Veg dishes weren’t marked let alone keeping them separate. It just needed two pens red and green and a marking near the name of the dish, which was not done. I am a vegetarian and had to discard a serving due to this confusion. The ‘Gala-Dinner’ had limited variety, poor taste, in the name of starters, they offered burnt cauliflower pieces. For Rs.750 per head, it wasn’t worth the money at least for non-drinkers and vegetarians.
We were charged for DJ, music, fireworks. There was no DJ and the dance floor was dominated by over drunk guests so families stayed away. Fireworks wasn’t too spectacular also. It seems they could not choose appropriate fireworks for the occasion.
It seems the New Year Night Program was just designed for studs to drink and enjoy – families weren’t the targets at all. Had it not been this New Year Night, Panoramic would have been an excellent resort.
There are two types of rooms, beach view and garden view. As the hotel is situated across the road o...
