“Great hotel - shame about the beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2011

This is a great hotel with fantastic facilities and attentive staff. The hotel has a great pool as well as access to a beautiful looking beach. There are a couple of restaurants and the Seafood Grill on the beach serves wonderful fish.

Unfortunately there is a downside. The hotel is surrounded by a village of a couple of thousand people and they use the beach as their toilet....so the sand and sea are horribly polluted. The sight of young children swimming amongst the turds made me feel ill! It is a real shame that the hotel does not let people know about the issue!

“Poorly managed and plagued with flies”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2010

Stayed 2 nights in November. Excellent location nice beach and chalet rooms. Our room had a leaky toilet but staffed shrugged and put a towel on the floor. Other chalets were full. A few times during the day the open bathroom was literally covered in flies and they were a nuiscance on the beach. The staff claimed it was because the fishermen left the fish on the beach to dry attracting the flies - seems no energy to protect the rooms.
The food was basic and again at breakfast all plates had to be covered against the flies. When anyone came into the restaurant a cloud of flies took off from the doormat.
Nice location and rooms spoilt by poor management and I would suggest this place is a health hazard!

“Eternal Calmness”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2010

A great resort to unwind from the regular day to day chaos. The resort has very few cottages which are unattached to each other, which gives you a wonderful privacy. The rooms of your cottage directly opens into a beautiful garden and thereafter the beach starts. A clean beach with beautiful white sand, clean to the core, no outsiders strolling around - you get a kind of private beach feeling. Cottages and the rooms there are tastefully done, too much detailing has gone into maintaining natural coolness in the rooms (though Air Conditioning is there). The garden has these wonderful palm trees with the kind of nets tied between the 2 of them where you can relax during the evening (ideal during sunset) overlooking the beach and the clear stars lit sky above you.

I should specifically mention about the restaurant, which is right at a corner of this same garden. So plan for a wonderful candle light during for one of the night during your stay, unforgettable - great cuisine (anything from seafood to other non-veg to veg food) with a great ambience (naturally architectured) and great sorrounding directly overlooking the beach and the sea.

Since there are few cottages please make sure that you book in advance. Their site is - http://www.atdcalleppey.com/

“one of the best in kerala..”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 July 2010

6 guys stayed 1 night at this hotel... the hotel shines through with its friendliness!

treated with coconut juice, hot towel and santhanam when we arrived, it was nice as we were parched from driving from thekkady..

the cottages were nice, better than staying in a multiplex, loads of area of walk around, the beach looked good, but we went in moonsoon season which meant the sea was rough and we were advised not to go in the water. we didnt mind there was a big pool. we all had a dip in the pool with drinks being served. the view from the pool is amazing, coconut grove, sea at the back.

the staff were so friendly we managed to get some cricket bat, tennis ball and stumps, even got two of the staff to play with us, it was a great laugh and my team with the staff won the match.
couldn't play cricket with slipper so i was playing barefoot and i think they have leeches, i had a couple attached to my feet, they were tiny can be mistaken for ants.

the restaurant was great, with great classical music being played, a friend of mine asked for AR Rahman tunes to be played and they happily played them. great dinner, tried some indian wine, i didnt like the smell of it but my friends emptied the bottle.

it was a nice stay and at the end we wished we stayed there a bit longer.
