“NEVER STAY IN THIS HOTEL. YOU COULD DIE !!”
I was staying in this hotel with my partner. On th night of Jan 13th they were repairing one of the elevators. My room no. was 1701. I did not realize that there was a problem until a heavy stench of kerosene and oil filled my room. I thought it was from my bag because I had taken a short trip to a nearby town on business that day by the bus. So I put my bag in the corridor for a while. But after about 1.5 hours the room still stank. We could not sleep and were getting suffocated. I called the reception at about midnight to complain about the stench. The receptionist said that they were repairing the elevator and the stench was due to kerosene being used to clean the metal moving parts in the elevator shaft. She also said that many guests had left due to the smell. I was upset as they did not inform us anything about this and let us breathe in the toxic fumes for so long. I demanded a refund. They said that they could move me to another room. I checked another room but the stench was there too and besides moving all my samples (7 cartons) 2 bags each (means 4 bags of our personal items), the food and drinks like water coke etc which we had bought and were lying on the bar, and we were in the midst of putting numbers on our samples and the samples were everywhere ! Clothes hanging in the closet, safe with our passports, credit cards and some valuables etc was not an easy task which could be done quickly. Moving to another room would mean an hour or two extra work so in all probability we would be able to go to bed after 2 am. They had only 1 bell boy at night and there was no gurantee that we would be free from the stench. The next day I woke up with a splitting headache and fever the next morning. I had pain in my chest and a sever cough and cold too. When checking out I demanded that they do not charge me for that night as the service which a hotel is expected to give was not done so. A '5 star' hotel which cannot gurantee clean, stench free rooms for guests should be shut down ! I dont know which corrupt agency gave them permission to operate. I regret staying at that hotel. I have been going to doctors and taking medicines upto today (30 Jan) after that ordeal. I do not recommend this hotel to any guests especially foreign guests who are accustomed to responsible hotel management. Firstly, they should not clean elevator shafts at night when people in hotel return to rest. Such matters should be done when most guests leave for their work in the morning and such maintenance works should be finished before the evening. In case of emergencies like this guests should be informed well in advance and suitable arrangements made for moving them and in addition guests should be awarded some discounts or vouchers for free stays, complimentary dinner or whatever it takes to ensure that the guests are suitably rewarded for the stress and trouble they need to go through due to fault of the hotel. The behaviour of the hotel managers and staff was far below normal international standards. They put us in danger of asphyxiation and simply said 'sorry'. I definitely will not stay there again and do not suggest that anyone else reading this ever stay there again. The hotel operators have to learn the right way to treat guests. Thankyou for reading this.
