“Old world comfort in the heart of town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2010

I stayed at the Biltmore for 3 nights for my niece's wedding held across the street. This is an historic building with each room decorated with period reproductions. Surprisingly, pets are welcome with no additional charge. There is free internet, an exercise room, continental breakfast (wonderful pastries and granola from a bakery around the corner), newspaper delivered to your door each morning, evening wine and cheese tasting and a friendly, courteous and accommodating staff. It is centrally located with shopping and restaurants close by. The only negatives would be the street noise if your room faces the street and no luggage carts to help with luggage (though staff offered to help).

“Beware of reservation policies”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2010

This hotel will charge you upon arrival for the entire stay. There is no way to reduce your reservation after arrival without paying for any unused nights.

The staff will tell you that they are flexible, but the management does not agree.

The elevator was built by Edison himself. The room reeked of fresh paint. The small tv had difficulty maintaining a picture for more than 15 seconds. You have to park across the street and get your ticket validated by the clerk, if you could find him. If you want any continental breakfast, then you better be there at 6 sharp, otherwise it is gone.

A horrible experience

“Convenient but don't plan to sleep”

The staff was accommodating. The lobby charming. They are very dog friendly and, as an old property, very musty. Not a haven for allergy sufferers. But my bug complaint is the street noise. Oh my stars. It was 3am before it was quiet enough to sleep.

“History in the Middle”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 May 2010

Great location and a wonderful use of a nice old hotel. Stayed 3 nights while visiting for a graduation. Room 229 at the rear of the Hotel is overlooking the outside court yard of a small seafood restuarant. The only draw back was the evening noise from the outdoor area of the restuarant. Everything else was fine. Good service, clean and quaint with a grate location for shops and restuarants. Very nice complimentry breakfast and evening wine tastings. Would go back again.

“Needs a major overhaul”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 May 2010

I love places with character. I've always chosen to live in quaint, older houses, whenever I get the chance. I do not expect modern amenities.

However, I do expect cleanliness, and the Biltmore has some real problems in this area. The lamp shade in my room was water stained, the comforter was stained, there was no molding between the floor and walls, the room felt dark and dingy. One of my colleagues had a roach in her room and ancient carpeting.

This hotel could be wonderful, and the location is ideal. The lobby area is quite attractive and the staff very nice. The rooms simply need a thorough overhaul - need someone to invest some money and TLC. If that happened, I think the hotel would be a real draw. In the meantime, if cleanliness is the most important attribute you look for in a hotel, I would skip it.
