“Great Place, a little fussy.”

The rooms where immaculate and very comfortable and I would not hesistate to recommend this place to somebody else (which is why I am writing this I guess). The breakfasts where very nice as well.

Would I return?

Maybe -- I managed to set off an alarm one evening after opening the door to the outside on my room. It wasn't noted anywhere on or near the door that it was alarmed, nore in the litrature that accompanied the room. I apologized, and was dismayed to find a reminder note on my door when I returned from work the next day .... just in case I forgot that I woke everybody up sometime in the small hours of the morning.

It just underscored the opinion I have of many B&B's where they are more about the image and presentation of the home than the comfort of the guests and while this place was great to look at I never did truely relax after the above incident.

“Perfect Place to Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2006

My wife and I were on a trip across NC to see relatives and friends and the Troy-Bumpas was the first B&B we had booked. The property is kept up and the rooms are well furnished. There is ample parking out back and the outside doors are kept locked for security. Due to us booking a little late we did have to change rooms, (not the B&B's fault), which gave us a chance to see two different rooms in the B&B. I preferred the large shower stall and separate white tiled bathroom in the first bedroom we stayed in, to the Jacuzzi/shower tub that inhabited the second room we stayed in.

One of my priorities for the trip was to see UNC Greensboro, and the campus is only a short walk away. The close proximity makes this an excellent place to stay to get a feel for the university area including the shops and restaurants. There is also a large outdoor mall nearby in case you want to do some shopping or grab a cup of coffee in the morning.

Highly recommended.

“Great place”

My wife and I stayed at the Troy-Bumpas Inn over the Labor Day weekend as we were attending a wedding in the area. All I can say about this place it that it is great. The rooms are clean, tastefully decorated and the beds are heavenly, in fact my wife has decreed that we buy a Serta Perfect Sleeper for our room and all our guest rooms in the near future. The breakfast was great, I hope that my wife will be able to duplicate the ginger snap pancakes. It is also worth mentioning the great cookies left outside our door all the time (the oatmeal ones are really good). One reviewer talked about the dogs, we really liked them, Ginger greeted us as soon as we got there with a wagging tail and an escort to the door. All of that being said, the best thing about this place are the people who run it. We could have spent all day just chatting with Andrea or Sarah, or speaking French with one of the local students who helps out at the house. We will surely stay here again, even when we don't have a reason to stay in Greensboro, we will find one to take a brief respite at this Inn. I would also like to say that the other guests were great as well. Hope this helps.

“My favorite B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 March 2005

I hesitate to comment on this wonderful B&B for fear that I won't be able to get a room when I want one. However, I highly recommend this place if you want to stay in a bed & breakfast. It isn't a hotel, but it is very special. I have stayed at the Troy Bumpas 3 times and had a fantastic experience each time.
This is a beautiful historic house. The rooms are all charming, and very comfortable. Andrea and John are warm and hospitable innkeepers, and extremely helpful. Andrea is an excellent cook; she has fantastic cookies waiting in the upstairs hall when you arrive, and breakfast is always a treat. She also knows the local restaurants very well, and has given us great suggestions for dinner.
Each of the guest rooms is named after one of the Troy sisters (the family that owned the house in the 19th century). Nina and Lota are both very romantic rooms, and the baths have been renovated recently. Nina, the big room with the king bed and the huge tub, is just amazing. Ethel is also a very nice room, but the bath is down the hall at the moment. (I understand there are plans to change that at some point.) The Inn does have a web site if you want to see photos and more info (I don't see a link in TripAdvisor). NOTE:I am surprised someone had a problem with the two dogs. They are very sweet and quiet (they don't bark, jump on you, or chase the car) and stay outside all the time. They will come say hello when you go from the car to the house, but you can call ahead if you want them fenced in when you arrive.

“Warm, relaxing, and enjoyable was was our stay.”

We arrived in the evening and were greeted by 2 adorable pooches, who are very gentle. We were greeted by the inn keepers, Andrea and John. From the beginning of our stay to the end, they couldn't do enough to make our trip special. Our trip was a business trip, but staying at the Troy-Bumpas Inn made our trip a delightful one. Andrea loves to cook and surprised us each morning with an incredible breakfast such as pecan maple French Toast. Each day's breakfast was a delight. Our room was a lovely historic King bed room with a free standing bath tub on legs. My husband and I were comfortable and enjoyed our stay immensely. Andrea gave us recommendations to a college town vegetarian restaurant within walking distance which we raved about. Any time we needed directions, Andrea and John were right there to assist. We plan on returning and have already made our reservations for next year. Our stay was an enjoyable stay.
