My first experience at this hotel was my trip up the pitch black stairwell to the 2nd floor. All of the stairway lighting was burned out. Since it was 10 pm, I didn't get to experience the green pool referenced by another reviewer until the following morning. However, the pool was truly bright green, and allegedly, now closed for the season. Our suite was spacious, and fortunately contained 2 refrigerators, because the first refrigerator was broken and the freezer contained an ice cube tray filled with mildewed water. Most of the light bulbs in the room were burned out as well. To cap off our experience, the following morning, we had no hot water for showers. Upon checking out, we informed the desk clerk of all of our concerns, including the ice cube tray, which we brought down to the desk. She assured me the manager would call me on Monday. Monday came and went, as did the entire week, without so much as a phone call. When I returned home after my vacation, I emailed Customer Service about my experience, and miraculously received a phone call from the manager that same day, with the excuse that she thought,
" I was going to call her". The most disturbing part of this entire experience were all of the excuses that followed. In the words of the manager via email,
"I thank you for the pictures, it seems that my headhousekeeper is not checking behind the housekeepers. Rm 226 has been rented many times and I have reports where the guest has given 10 out of 10 on surveys. I am very proud of my hotel and am very sad to see these pictures. It is very hard to go to the property every day to make sure that things are 100%. We don't even have ice trays in our refrigerators. But this one must have been left when the new box was open. Its very hard to train employees and expect them to give their job 100%.
The pool was closed after labor day. It was a beautiful blue color. I am not adding any chemicals. It will soon be drained out and closed for the winter.
The plam tree just didn't like its location and should have been taken care of better." (her spelling, not mine)
As a registered nurse, health and safety concerns are paramount for me. Her failure to take these issues seriously, choosing instead to offer excuse after excuse was absolutely unsatisfactory to me. My follow up letter to Customer Relations at the Corporate level received the following response, "Since each Choice Hotel property is independently owned and operated, we must defer to the hotel's response as a final resolution to your case. In this regard, our records show that the hotel has acknowledged your concerns. While we are sorry that you found their efforts to be unsatisfactory, we must consider the hotel's response to be final."
