Hi people...I can't comment on what might be responsible for the negative comments on this hotel. I'm a 55 year old male from New York, curentlt hiking the Appalachian Trail. I have stayed at hotels all over the world over the past few decades, ranging from budget hotels, to La Tremoille in Paris last year at $1,200 a night. This is my third night at the Grand Prix and I am very, very comfortable here, thanks to the very helpful proprietors Harry and Sharon (I've never met either of them until three days ago.) This hotel is exactly what I expected for a BUDGET hotel. If I didn't want to stay at a budget hotel, I would have stayed at the Hilton Garden! My room is fine, no complaints at all. The pool is beautiful. The grounds and lobby are well kept. Harry and Sharon are VERY nice and quite helpful. The location is great, with a very easy walk downtown and right next to a trolley stop. The washer and dryer made my clothes smell like flowers. Excellent computer to use in lobby, coffee in the morning, strong Wi-Fi signal in the rooms, better than many hotels I've stayed at. Haven't seen any bugs. Regarding the "outdated" 1960's hotel...that s exactly what I want when I travel, a place with some history, character and personality...otherwise I'd be at the Clarion! Other guests seem quite happy here. I don't know what anyone's talking about re. price "misunderstandings," I haven't experienced, seen or heard about aything like that.
I can't help that this review might stand out compared to some of the above comments, but I'm a very experienced traveler, and I'm just trying to help anyone who's looking for an inexpensive place to stay in Gatlinburg with some honest comments.
I would give my email address but no point, since I'll be hiking the trail for 5 more months. Oh I'll give it anyway...Dana Teton...dteton@option3.biz.
PS: Re. the coment on "their" terrible English...they both speak English quite well thank you.
