We stayed at the Riverhouse for 4 nights over the July 4th weekend. We have stayed here many times before and love the Riverhouse. As others have mentioned, it has that 70's log cabin feel with dark carpeting, wood paneling on the walls, etc... Best features for us are the location - close to downtown, but sitting back on the other side of the stream off River Rd, so noise isn't an issue. The private balconies overlooking the stream are relaxing after a long day of walking and sightseeing. The breakfast is good - limited to doughnuts, toast, and juice/coffee, but the doughnuts are homemade and quite tasty. Rooms are large in size and have a large dressing area in addition to the bathroom (which was recently updated). Even though the decor is slightly dated, the room was the cleanest we have seen in a hotel room in a long time. Housekeeping does a great job.
The kids enjoyed the pool, no issues there either. Make sure to bring your own towels unless you want to use the towels from your room.
Since the room doors are exterior, we always ask for a room on the second floor, which helps limit noise from the parking lot. It also improves the view of the stream. There are ramps to the second floor for those who might have issues with the stairs.
We will definitely stay at the Riverhouse again. While it does not have that "modern" look it is a clean, comfortable place to stay within walking distance of the Gatlinburg strip and restaurants.
Room Tip: Ask for a second floor room
