“Great Gatlinburg lodging by the Smokies”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

We brought the new year in with a trip to Gatlinburg and chose a great location to spend the nights when we chose the Bearskin. It is located almost adjacent to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, has queen size beds, is in a relatively quiet location yet easy walk to main strip of Gatlinburg, and staff was very accomodating. The room was fairly large with a gas fireplace that was very convenient for cold evenings. The in-room heat was a little dry but most hotels have this problem. Our room was right on a pretty mountain stream coming from the park and had a comfortable balcony to sit and watch the water rush by. The Lodge certainly enhanced our experience. They have a nice pool area with a heated pool. We did not use the pool because it was only 30 degrees outside but they had two fire pits and we took advantage of those.

Room Tip: Choose rooms on the stream. View includes another hotel but the stream between the two makes up for...

“First trip to Gatlinburg”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

I was satisfied with the rate and quality of this hotel. I came during what I'm guessing is off season, so the room was $70 a night; however when booking the room, the lady at the front desk offered me a night free, so it was great to save some of the money unexpectedly.

I stayed in room 323, 2 queen beds, a fireplace, whirlpool tub, shower, and balcony overlooking the city. There isn't much city to overlook, and the river behind the hotel isn't much either, so it would probably be best to save your money for a room without a view. You can walk two steps outside to actually see the river.

I thought the room was REALLY clean. The beds, linens, carpet and shower were very clean. The room was cleaned every day. The breakfast wasn't anything special, but it's a free breakfast. The staff was helpful and accommodating.

The room and hotel did have a smell. Honestly it's probably from the whirlpool tubs in each room- smells like cleaning/bleach, but doesn't smell worse than any other hotel out there.

The internet is no wi-fi, but there is an ethernet cable that laptops can hook up to.

Entrance to the park was literally 5 minutes away (awesome), and we were really close to all of the attractions. Definitely walking distance, although it was a little cold to walk this week :)

For the price I'd definitely stay here again- it's on the high end of "you get what you pay for."

Room Tip: Room 323 was nice.

“great hotel, great price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2011

We recently honeymooned at the Bearskin Lodge, and I really have nothing bad to say about the hotel itself. I had seen this hotel on a previous trip but thought it would be out of our budget. However, while planning our honeymoon I stumbled across this hotel again and the rates were the same if not cheaper than the previous hotel we had stayed at down the road, which was out-dated and didn't have the amenities the Bearskin offered. I was expecting it to be twice as much. Our room had a hot tub and a fireplace, which is great for those cold winter months. Loved the 'rustic mountain' look of it. The continental breakfast was one of the best I have had. Biscuits and gravy, make your own waffles, and pretty much anything else you could think of. Very nice lady attending the breakfast area, her service was phenomenal. The bed wasn't as comfortable as I had hoped, but it wouldn't keep me from staying here again. The location is good if you like to be away from the busy-ness of downtown. There is a winery and general store across the street which was convenient for late night snacks. However, if you plan on walking, it is a pretty long walk to get downtown to where Ripley's aquarium is located. The only reason this was a problem was that the trolley's quit running at 6:00 pm in the winter (kinda dumb if you ask me, but that is the city, not the lodge). Overall a great experience at the hotel and I would definitely recommend it.

Room Tip: I recommend getting a balcony over the river.

“Best time in the Mountains!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

We usually stayed in a rental cabin but had a couple of harrowing experiences trying to navigate the very narrow/ steep roads going up into the mountains and decided to stay in town. We found this hotel by accident (having walked out of another hotel for not providing the amenities they advertised). The Bearskin Lodge is conveniently located at the end of the "Strip" - an easy walking distance to everything- with adequate parking, clean/ spacious rooms- some with fireplaces ( a very nice touch for Winter vacationers). The lobby is really nice and the staff was wonderful. My family (adults) all want to stay here when we come back.
Can't wait!
