We had read good/not so good reviews on tripadvisor.com, especially concerning problems with the parking; so, we decided to wait until our arrival to make reservations...which was a little nerve-racking, considering it was Thanksgiving week! However, upon our arrival, there was a room available with 2 queen beds, micro, fridge and fireplace overlooking the river. We weren't able to see the rooms, because they have had many problems with people not returning keys in a timely fashion after reviewing rooms; so, we drove around to several other places to make sure this was the place we wanted to stay...we were able to glance into one of the rooms while driving by (as the door was open) and the parking looked a little precarious, but not too bad....after looking around town, with most places booked or much more expensive than The River Terrace, we decided on staying. Upon taking our bags to the first room - located on the 5th floor right by the elevator (room 3520, I think) - there was make-up on the bathroom counter...I believe the housekeeper maybe had just "spot cleaned" in here, but the rest of the room was immaculately clean... So we called the front desk, they were INCREDIBLY apologetic, offered to move us, or refund our money. Because they were so ready to oblige, because we really liked the room and location, because our 2 boys were very excited to be staying "on the 5th floor, overlooking the town," AND because they had another available room at the end of the same floor, right by the stairs, we just decided to stay... The staff quickly BROUGHT us a new set of keys. The second room (room 3530) was great, very clean, and a corner room; so, we actually had a little better view of the town and the mountains. (*The room we stayed in is in the River Tower building, the tall building shown in the hotel's profile pic above.) The beds were comfortable, the pillows - not so much; the gas fireplace was nice and the mountain view from the balcony was great with the sound and view of the river flowing below. The location of the hotel/motel is wonderful because you can leave your car parked and just walk into town. It is located right behind the "mall" at stoplight 3a. They really need to think about remodeling the rooms a bit cosmetically...they have this corregated wood on several of the walls and on several of the buildings that makes it look a little cheaper than it has to; the restaurant was good at all, but we just felt sorry for it rather than mad, the bathrooms could use some upgrading and the parking....oh, the parking.... Due to it being Thanksgiving weekend, the parking lots were not so bad, but had it been a really packed weekend, the parking would be horrendous. The parking lot for the River Towers has this wall around it and the relatively small opening in which to angle your car just right to get through. They just need to take out 2 sections of this wall, and it would be much better. They have an outdoor pool, but it was covered due to winter season; so, I can't give an informative review of it. Overall, I'd give it a C+/B- rating, but if we wanted to stay downtown on River Road again, we might stay. It's not the best, but so many of those hotels on River Road are worse from the outside than this one, and the staff here is great; so, it would definitely not be crossed completely out. (oh, and they gave us 10% off our bill because of the room change!...that makes up for alot! :))
