My husband and I stayed at Bluegreen's Mountainloft Resort in Gatlinburg for 3 nights in January 2012. We were supposed to stay for 4 nights, but I'll get to that in a second.
Basically, this is a timeshare resort. I got a really good deal and booked for 4 nights. I requested a top floor room long before our arrival date and I was told that our request would be honored if they had a top floor room available. When we arrived at the resort, the place was deserted. Hardly any cars in the expansive parking lots, so I thought, "Great - I'll get a top floor room, no problem." Check-in was a long wait (there was only one person in front of me, but took forever!), but I finally got my turn. I was told there were no top-floor rooms available. I explained that I was a light sleeper and if I couldn't be on the top floor, then please put me under a "quiet" person if possible. The staff person laughed and said, "You'll have no issues, I assure you." After check-in you are told to go to another desk to get a parking pass. This is when they try to hit you up for a timeshare presentation. All you have to do is say "no" and then they leave you alone for the rest of your visit.
We checked into our room in Building 10. We were on the 4th floor (there are 5 floors) in a one bedroom Deluxe (definitely go for the Deluxe instead of the regular rooms). Plenty of parking, fast elevator and no problem with the room whatsoever. It was very clean and everything was in working order. LOVELY view of the Smokey Mountains with our own private balcony. The fireplace worked great and the kitchen had everything we needed to fix meals if we wanted to cook. We were HAPPY with everything....until......we got back from dinner later that night.
We settled down on the comfy couch to watch some news around 10pm. Then we heard the most awful noises coming from upstairs above our heads. There was scooting of furniture, stomping all around, things banging, and loud hammering. I thought maybe housekeeping was upstairs, so we just left it alone for the first night after the noise died down around 11:30pm. At 3:30am that same night - the noise started up again for about an hour!! We ended up giving the upstairs neighbor the benefit of the doubt, and didn't complain about the noise. The second night, no major problems - just a bunch of walking around for about an hour at 2am. Third night - the noise went on and on from about 12am until 5:30am. My husband went upstairs since the front desk was closed, and saw several thugs going in and out of the unit above us. They were making trips to the dumpster and had a vehicle parked at the very end of the parking lot (instead of in front of their unit). It appeared there may have been some drug use or distribution going on, so my husband did not approach any of the guys. We checked out the next morning, tired and bleary eyed. When I told the staff person why we were leaving a day early she said, "Didn't you call security?" In all the literature that was provided to us, I never saw a number for security. So, of course I didn't call security. She apologized and said she would tell her manager and alert security. Well, thanks. I hope you don't find a meth lab or something up there.
Basically - this is a very nice place and could have been relaxing. We noticed that throughout our stay the parking lot was empty, and there was no way that a top floor room in ANY of the buildings was not available. I think they just fibbed to us and gave us the unit with the noisiest person in the place above us. It was just too coincidental.
On a more positive note. The place was immaculate and the grounds were very nice. The small fitness center was perfect for my use and the location was close to all the action, while still being in a "quiet" location away from the heavy traffic. Our bed was very comfortable and there was plenty of closet space and drawer space. We really liked this resort, but it's a shame that my request was not granted. It would have been a very simple gesture that would have made our stay perfect. We may give them another chance one day, but next time - I'll tell them to read my review on Trip Advisor before assigning me to a room. Maybe they'll think twice before not honoring people's requests - especially when the place is deserted.
Room Tip: Your request won't be honored anyway, so don't bother. Or, pay more money and stay in a cha...
