“Fine value and a nice stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 February 2011

I traveled on a impromptu trip to Gatlinburg on 2/18/11. This place is just up the hill on 321 and is an easy walk to everything. It is a good balance of distance to the action while being off the main drag. There were over 9000 high school kids here this weekend and this was a chance to get away.

My check-in was pleasant and the desk people were great. When I couldn't find the TV remote she left the office and walked another one to my room. Parking was easy. My room was in the building attached to the office (room 103) and was in a neat location and seemed very isolated and it was very quiet. If I had neighbors in 102 it would be great to hang out with them on the porch and enjoy a view of the trees. The WiFi worked great.

The room is not very big, just enough for a bed and a bathroom and a desk. It's a good size for a solo traveler or couple who travels light. The place seems slightly older but that made it more charming. It is not a run down property but if you'll find signs of wear if you look for them: sink stoppers missing, stains, dings in furniture.

I got this room for $53/night with a AAA discount so I'm pretty happy. I'll give this 4 stars because there are nicer places and there may be less expensive places (they would be scary) but this was a good balance of cheap and habitable. It's a good find if you are a cheapskate like me and not so critical of every little thing.

Hint: if you stay here and have to make a left turn into the hotel, turn left after the next building. You'll be driving backwards through the neighbor's lot but it's a safer left turn.

“Wonderful Value”

My husband, my 3 teenage kids and myself visited Gatlinburg in August of 2010. Us being a family of 5 I was looking for something cheap. I researched and read the reviews online about this hotel and after all the looking around I chose Rodeway Inn for our week there. I had mixed feelings about staying there because some of the reviews were not so good, but some of them were extremely good. So I went ahead and made the reservations and took our chances. When we arrived the hotel did look outdated and it was. The people at the front desk were very friendly and very helpful with any questions that we had. We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite....it had a full kitchen, seperate dinning room and a living room and the bedrooms were a king bed and 2 double beds. The room was surprisingly comfortable, clean and everything worked. The hotel is in a perfect location to walk the strip. I didn't care much for the hill for the walk back up to the hotel...but we were in Gatlinburg enjoying ourselves as a family for my 9th anniversary and wouldn't hesitate staying there again or recommending this hotel to anyone. As a matter of fact my family and I have reservations for April 2011 at the same hotel for the same room!!!! Can't wait 8-)

“Average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2010

We stayed at Skyland Rodeway Inn using Choice Hotel points garnered from previous stays at this chains hotels. The location is great - you can walk to most of Gatlinburg and considering the traffic and parking nightmares there this is a big plus. The room we stayed in had obviously been recently refurbished - new paint, wallpaper, bathroom tiles, carpet. The mattress and pillows were comfortable, it had a nice balcony, nice view and the room was quite large. You wonder why I rated it only average - the walls are paper thin so everything in the rooms around you is audible. Not really a problem this time of year when most guests are older and retire early. The towel rack in the bath was placed directly over the toilet - how is that a problem, you ask! It's way too low and nearly lethal if you are tall. The biggest problem was that whenever someone showered in the room next to us the pipes literally screamed! LOUDLY! I told the desk clerk about it and was asked if it sounded like an alarm. She told me they "thought they knew what the problem is", but did not seem to be too concerned about doing anything about it. I can't speak for any of the rooms other than the one we stayed in but aside from the towel rack and the screaming shower pipes it was a very nice place to stay.

“Pictures on website are deceiving, Very Old Hotel, needs Remodeling”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2010

Pictures on website are deceiving the Hotel is in very bad shape. Needs remodeling in the worst way. the concrete on the walkways and building looks very dangerous, ready to crumble. I was very unhappy with the hotel after I saw it ! Very Very old! needs updated ...on the good side the people were nice, the room was very very small but clean, the bathroom was clean and the showers had good water pressure and it was at a good location to walk around gatlinburg.. overall I would not stay here again, for the money we spent I think we could of found a nicer place.

“DO NOT STAY HERE!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2010

I could get past the out of date, musty, moldy room. But they were rude and mean. I left my cell phone at the hotel. Three hours out of Gatlingburg I realized it. I called the hotel from my wife's phone. A rude woman refused to help me get my phone back although she acknowleded the phone was there at the front desk. I offered to pay to have it shipped and she refused. I offered to have UPS come there to get it and send it to me COD. She refused!!! I explained to her how important the information stored in my phone was and she refused. I DROVE ALL THE WAY BACK TO GATLINBURG!! A total of six hours. When I got back to the hotel the lady at the front told me that she did not know what I was talking about. I did make the mistake of leaving my phone there. But how cruel it was to make me come back to get it and then not give it to me.
