“Didn't know what to expect but were pleasantly surprised”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

I had stayed at this place when I was a kid but that was a few years ago so we were a little hesitant to stay here based on some reviews and the looks of it from the outside. But after driving around and getting ridiculous prices for some other places(this is January so prices are usually very cheap) we decided to try it. We got a great deal on a jacuzzi room with an amazing view of the city. We could see everything from there. We were offered a room with a private balcony or one in the round part without a private balcony and we chose the private one. The location is good and the walk back uphill is not bad at all. The room was clean and I did check for bedbugs first(as I do at every place we stay) and there were none. The room was also very spacious with the jacuzzi tub being seperated in another room. I read some reviews talking about some rooms needing updates but the one we had looked fairly new with wooden paneling(not the 70's kind but what you might see in a log cabin) and the furniture also looked new. The only issue was that the floor in the shower felt a little flimsy, but not a big deal. The lady at the front desk was super friendly and helpful. I did try the breakfast on the morning we left and it was your basic free breakfast with juice, donuts, muffins and bagels. They do give you a map at the front desk that has a coupon for the Atrium restaurant down below the motel and we did use it on Saturday morning. Overall it was a great stay and we're already talking about going back and getting the same room with the same amazing view.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a city view.

This hotel has an excellent location if you love walking uphill to get back to it after walking downtown and shopping for hrs.. The people working there are super helpful and nice. Great Price. But make sure you ask for an updated room.. ours was outdated and could have used some paint and dusting. There is a room on the 2nd floor with a corner view, we peeked in the windows and it looked sooo nice... ask for that room it has a jaccuzzi tub!!!

“Good location, nice staff, needs updating”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

We stayed over a weekend for a girls shopping getaway. First, we'll go with the good. The room was spacious enough for all of us. It had two king size beds, a sleeper sofa, a mini fridge, microwave, fireplace, two bathrooms, and a balcony. The staff were very accomodating and nice. There was firewood on the balcony to use (we didn't, but it was nice it was supplied.)The complimentary coffee was an added bonus. It was rather good as well. We're not big breakfast eaters, so the bagels, mini muffins, and donuts were fine. The view from the balcony was nice. Housekeeping was respectful of our wishes for no service except extra linen while we were there. We didn't hear any noise from any of the other rooms as were mentioned in previous posts. The beds and couch, baseboards, etc were inspected (as with every hotel we go to) and we didn't find any evidence of "carry home critters." The location of the hotel was nice, as it's located just up the hill on 321 pretty much across from Hard Rock Cafe. The beds were comfortable and didn't disrupt our sleep.
Now for the bad: The place is in serious need of remodeling. I realize the economy is in the pits, but small renovations here and there would seriously be helpful. The railing on the balcony was flimsy at best. It would not hold an average sized person, let alone a larger person, were they to accidently fall. The carpeting was in need of repair. The room had a rather musty smell to it upon entering. The wallpaper/paint was peeling away from the walls in a few places. One of the electrical outlets was pulled away from the wall a little bit. There was some pizza(?) or something on one of the walls. There were burn marks on the couch and it appeared stained. The thermostat appeared broken and was unable to be adjusted, so it was a tad bit on the warm side at times.
There you have it. The pros and the cons. All in all, if you're just there to sleep, then this is a good place. Since we go to basically sleep at the end of our days of shopping, then we will probably be back.

“Paper thin door and exhaust fumes. No thanks!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

We went with the Gatlinburg Skyland Roadway because of the decent amount of good reviews. Unfortunately, we weren't as lucky as other comments. The hotel put us in a room that must have been the old staff room. The unit was right next to the 'lobby', needed major updating, including a new door to keep noise and exhaust fumes from parked cars. It was just an overall unpleasant experience!
