“Clean, nice and quiet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2011

First of all we visited the third week in November, so not there most seasonal time. Our experience was very pleasant. It is a very quiet area when we were there. The condo was very nice and clean. The staff gave you a little preview in advance of things to do in Gatlinburg. Cades Cove was wonderful. We actually went there twice. The patio outside was nice facing the highway. The only complaint I would have at all is that the toilets sit in the corner and I am a big woman. If you are not used to noise overhead, which I am not, you may want to get an upstairs unit.

Room Tip: You may want a upstairs unit is not used to that type noise. We had upstairs neighbors that were a...

“Great Resort!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

I would highly recommend White Oak Lodge to everyone! You are close enough to the towns that you can enjoy all the activities. The cabin is more spacious than the pictures show and everything was in good condition. The beds are super comfortable!
The pool table would be great for those days that the weather doesn't cooperate. The fireplace is wonderful and the hot tub on the back porch is the best thing after a long day of sightseeing!
This is one resort that is on my list to return to again. We only were able to stay for one evening which was not long enough!

Room Tip: Check out all the photos, most cabins seem similar

“Beautiful, spacious cabins”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

My family and I stayed in a 2 bedroom, 2 bath cabin and it had plenty of room for us. We have 4 small children so 3 slept in second bedroom and we brought a pack-n-play for the baby. There was a pool table and hot tub to occupy our time while at the cabin. I used the kitchen to prepare some meals and it had pretty much everything I needed. The decor was beautiful and the cabin itself was spotless. We woke up to several Canadian geese strolling across the lawn 2 different mornings and the boys loved seeing that. The resort was a little bit of a drive from Gatlinburg but there were grocery stores and some fast food on the way so you had some options as far as eating. You did have to go into Gatlinburg for restaurants though. I highly recommend it and would stay there again.

“We hiked up a Mountain!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2011

White Oak Lodge and resort is a beautiful place to stay. It is about 15 minutes from the downtown area of Gatlinburg and the smokey mountains entrance. This is our second time here and we love it. The place is really clean, has a screened in porch with a hot tub and a great kitchen to cook meals in.

We stayed for a week and drove down from Chicago (about a 10 hour drive). When we go - we love to spend a lot of our time doing outdoor activities. Some of the trails that we hiked in the smokes were:

-Mt. LeConte via Rainbow falls - 13.8 mile round trip hike with awesome views. This goes up 3993 feet in elevation. Took us about 8 hours to get up and down with all stops and rest at the top. If you go - you can make reservations at the cabins on top and eat food up there as well. Nothing special - it is on top of a mountain! If your doing the whole trip in one day - wear good shoes that support your ankles and bring lots of bug spray and water. Great hike!
-Laurel Falls - very easy hike - I did the hike in what I wore out for dinner that night. We saw a bear on the trail. He didn't want anything to do with us. Go near sunset for a better chance at seeing wild life.
-Abrams falls is a great hike with a waterfall at the end.
-Clingman's Dome is one of the highest peaks. You can drive there and take the 15 minute very steep walk up to the top. Great view. I recommend early morning or sunset to get the best view.
-Chimney Tops - great hike with an awesome view at the end. Hard rock climb to get to the highest peak - many don't go that far.
-Cades Cove - take the drive to see the wildlife. There is a lot of history as well that is fun to see.

We also did some white water rafting...I recommend using the TOC company. They are the safest and have the best guides. We did the pigeon river this time - but I recommend the river in NC instead. It is a little bit of a drive but a better river to go down.

As far as food - we went to the store and bought stuff to make for most of the week. There are gas grills so we would grill almost every night. The food in town is very commercial and not that great. There was a good BBQ place right before you go into the smokeys but I forget what it was called.

We also spent sometime at the pool...my husband loved to jump through the waterfalls. There are some locals that came to the pool each day we were there. They didn't cause any harm but it was kind of annoying. There is a sign that tells locals to stay out but they don't pay attention.

Have fun and relax! And don't forget to write something in the journal at the end of your trip! : )
