I and two other people stayed at Silver Jack this summer, taking two (converted trailer) rooms. Both had a litany of dead insects on the floor. The accomodations are very sparse for the money.

The reason they have a non-refundable policy is because some of the rooms (including mine) are infested with either mosquito nests or bed bugs. I was eaten alive during my one evening and had to deal with the bites for a week-and-a-half.

My advice: drive to Ely.

We stayed in one of the twin bed rooms and I thought that the mattresses were very comfortable. It is what it is. A motel in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere. It was old and a little run down, but for all that , the food was great and it was relatively clean.

Wife and I stayed one night in June, 2010. Drove more than 400 miles via Hoover Dam to get there after arriving on plane in Las Vegas earlier that day. The accomodations were OK for me but my wife had less-than-pleasant opinions of the motel. If you're going to spend a night in the area and if you expect decent accommodations, check out the Border Inn a few miles east, where we had a good breakfast, or consider the Whispering Elms Motel, Campground and RV Park in town. I believe the Silver Jack was for sale when we were there and that the owner(s) were from San Francisco. Better accommodations can be had. I rated this motel as average; my wife would rate it as poor.

My husband and I visited Great Basin National Park and stayed at the Silver Jack Inn in Baker, NV; population 52. It was nothing fancy for sure. It was a place to rest after a very long driving day. It was the perfect location for visiting Great Basin and the owner was an interesting fellow. There were other bikers staying there as well, so we determined it was biker friendly. We had a chat with the owner and he's been there for around 7 years. The place could use a facelift; it has great potential. I'd stay again for the convenience.
