We stayed here for 5 nights in July. You will love this lodge if you are looking to commune with nature. This place is in the middle of beautiful wilderness. The staff will help coordinate any trips you want to take while you are there. I highly recommend the Glacier Bay boat trip. There are also whale watching trips, fishing, hunting, hiking, biking, kayaking, even (adventure) golf! The meals are great, and if you have any special dietary needs, they will accommodate you. I have to eat gluten free. The chef made me special meals which was an extra treat for me. The large lobby area has many comfy chairs and couches to sit in to read, or just look out the huge windows overlooking the scenery. You can play board games, or work on a puzzle, and enjoy the fireplace. We loved Bandit, the resident dog. He will join you on hikes if you want him to. We took him along for protection from the bears. Make your reservations early, and get a second floor room facing the front of the lodge if you can. The view is awesome. The rooms are nicely sized and very clean. Janie, the owner, is more than happy to talk to you about the lodge and give you some advice on planning your trip. A very relaxing place to stay! If you have never been to southeast Alaska, and are used to warmer climates, as we are, being from Houston, make sure you take warmer clothes and rain gear. The temperature can vary from 50 degrees one day, to 73 degrees the next in the summer. It rains a lot in southeast Alaska since it is considered the northern most rain forest in the North American continent. But it is beautiful, even in the rain, and if you are dressed properly, you will still enjoy it. Think layers that you can put on or take off as needed. Take some comfortable rain boots or waterproof hiking boots. Take waterproof outerwear so you don't get soaked in an all day drizzle. And if you are going out on the water, remember it can be up to 10 degrees cooler on deck. If you have your hat and gloves, and you are prepared, you can stay up on deck and enjoy the scenery. It is the most beautiful place I think we have ever seen. There is so much wildlife, waterfalls, green mountains, and rocky ones with snow, wildflowers, rivers, and lakes, fjords, glaciers, and lush forests. It is a feast for the eyes! We definitely want to go back!
