“Cute but Very Small Room”

We stayed at the Apgar Village Lodge our first two nights on our trip to Glacier Natl. Park. We stayed in one of the rooms facing McConald Creek. The view out the window of the creek was fantastik. The room was clean, but very small and very basic. The bathroom was so small that the door hit the toilet when opened. The shower was also very small. Only room for one person to stand in the bathroom. The queen bed was pretty uncomfortable, we had a hard time keeping from rolling into the middle. All in all it was OK .. Don't think I would pick the same room again. The cabins cost more, but I would pick one of them next time

“Glacier National Park”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2011

We stayed at Apgar Village Lodge on the West side of the Park the first 2 nights we got to Glacier Park - simple, rustic and small but clean and comfortable. The motel room is divided into two small rooms : one with a double bed and the other with a queen. They both share a bathroom with a shower. No tub. From the bedroom window, we had a nice view of Lake McDonald. It takes 5mn to walk to the lake. There are restaurants and gift shops within walking distance. The visitor center is a 5mn walk. The free shuttle that takes you on the Sun Road across the park stops in front of the visitor center. It's a convenient place to stay to go white water rafting, as Glacier Raft Company down the road would come to pick you up right at your door. Highly recommend the rafting with diner by the river, by the way ! There are restaurants, a grocery store and gift shops within walking distance. We were happy with our stay even tho it was no luxury.

The third night we stayed at Mac Donald's lodge so we could hike the trails nearby and take the boat tour on the lake. Do take the boat tour to learn of all the historical stories of the lodge and the area ! McDonald lodge is larger, bigger, with a feel of a small resort. Bedrooms are small but efficient. Big fireplace in the hall is lovely ! Restaurant is excellent and reasonably priced !

The rest of the week, we stayed on the East side of the Park at St Mary Lodge. Great lodge, great bar and restaurant ! Excellent food ! We stayed in a beautiful large suite overlooking a babbling brook ! Every clear night, the rangers set up powerful telescopes and conducted free star gazing nights for everyone. Check with St Mary Lodge for detailed info ! From St Mary, we drove to Waterton in Canada to visit the lake, the red rock canyon and waterfalls.

You do want to spread out your lodging across the park and group your activities accordingly so you don't end up driving back and forth on the Sun Road every day ! The Red tour bus is a delight. Our driver was very knowledgeable and made the trip very interesting ! Waterton in Canada is quite charming ! Well worth the trip ! Overall, beautiful and unforgettable trip. Majestic views, clean air, nice hiking trails, lots of outdoor activities, bears and goats sightings, spectacular Sun Road ! Will go back anytime !

“Fantastic and Quiet”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

I stayed here 3 nights with my family in Cabin 3. It had a second room that our 2 year old son stayed in. It was clean, had a great little kitchen to make breakfast in and store snacks. No TV, no phone, PERFECT way to tune out! The only negative although small was the shower is extremely small. I'm only 5/10 190lbs and it was tight. If you are heavy don't even think about this shower. You won't fit. The other cabins might have bigger shower stalls, I don't know.

“Perfect Setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2011

We have stayed at Apgar Village Lodge several times. It is rustic cabins in the mountains. The air is fresh and wonderful (unless your dimwitted neighbor is stinking up the fresh air with his cig). The view from the big window in our cabin is of McDonald Creek, and is the BEST. We saw a Blue Heron fishing for his dinner...it was great!
The pros are; Flush toilet, hot running water, clean room and linens, small writing desk with lamp, big mirror, best location and views, close to shopping and eatery, walk anywhere, close to shuttle for rides up the pass for hiking and adventures.
Cons; neighbor on one side was trying to hack up a lung most of the night, neighbor on the other side was snoring loudly by 9:30, and I'm sure they heard us as well. No tv or internet connection (but not needed in the wilderness, right?), yes, DO bring sox because the bathroom is cold, altho the wall heater works well to heat up the bedroom.
It's kinda like camping, but not as dirty, and with flush toilets and hot water. In the mountains, count this as luxury. Then go hike to Avalanche Lake and have fun in the beautiful out doors.

“Enjoyable place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2011 via mobile

We stayed at cabin #3 for four nights. The cabin was rustic as I expected but it was clean and comfortable. It has two double bed in the bedroom, a separate kitchen with a back door, a double bed, futon, dining table and seating area in the main room. The bathroom has been updated. However due to the way the shower head was placed, the shower stall felt a little to small. The staff were nice and helpful.
The location was great, it's close to the free park shuttle, visitor center and shops. The view of Lake McDonald is priceless. We will definitely stay here again.
