We stayed here for 5 days, 4 nights and really loved it. Honey's was a sweet, quiet and relaxing house in a neat little part of Brooklyn. I have been to NYC 4 times before and always stayed in Manhattan. We decided to book Honey's based on the reviews here. I'm SO glad we did! The price was great, Laura and Celia were super friendly, the breakfast was always yummy and appreciated each morning and the ride on the train into Manhattan wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The only issue was the fact that there is construction right now on the one side of Ave H station. So, when returning home late we had to walk from Newkirk station. We agreed that when the construction is finally over (according to the MTA website, it should be in the Fall) it will make our future stay that much better. When heading into the city, we were able to take Ave H station and realized how it truly is just a couple minutes from Honey's and how awesome it will be to get off there and have a short walk back after a long tiring day in Manhattan.
I really am glad we booked this. In the past, I never would have considered Brooklyn as a place to stay, but Honey's has changed my mind. Take a stroll up to Cortelyou (or hop on the train north 2 stops) and try some yummy pizza, sushi, lattes or go shopping at some awesome health food stores. On Coney Island Ave, we found variety stores, a nice liquor store (fantastic find if you are from Ontario and want to take a cheap bottle of booze back home, duty free!), and post office for mailing post cards. Right outside Newkirk station there were a string of stores, one being a dollar/discount store that had cheap bags and toiletries if you forget anything (we bought a cheap backpack there for $4.99 when we realized we didn't have enough room in our luggage for the souvenirs we bought)... and right next to Ave H station is a juice/smoothie bar that makes delicious smoothies and other treats.
If you want to check out Coney Island, it is a very short train ride away. My bf is a big fan of the movie "The Warriors" so this was a must on our list. Cheap tasty eats and drinks at Nathan's, a welcoming breeze from the water (very nice after the sweltering June heat of Manhattan).. and right next to Nathan's is a souvenir shop. Again, if you are a fan of The Warriors you must check it out. T-Shirts, hats and shot glasses with the movie's logo can be found here at a decent price. Some great photo ops of the area, including the famous Wonder Wheel are a must for any fan of the movie :) We saw everything we wanted to in just a couple hours, hopped on the F train to the Brooklyn Bridge (get off at Jay St, transfer to the A/C line then get off at High St) and walked across it into Manhattan. This is a must! Walking into Manhattan across the bridge was amazing, as the buildings slowly get bigger and bigger the closer you get. Many fantastic photo ops here too.
Staying in Brooklyn gave us new ideas for things to do. If we had stayed in Manhattan, we may not have ventured that far.. but by staying there it gave us some nice diversions on our way into the city and it was a nice, quiet place to crash after a busy day of sightseeing.
