“Neighborhood not so great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2011

Nothing like having a stranger steps from the entrance to the hotel, asking us if we wanted anything, to make me ill at ease while walking in the area at night. As a woman, I would only recommend venturing out at night with at least one companion. The hotel itself was ok, nothing remarkable, except possibly the fact that they have HBO.

“Good not Great! Would stay again.”

The hotel block looks a little rundown, but the surrounding area seemed safe. Hotel staff was helpful and the room was very clean. A bit small, but larger than some rooms I've stayed in at other New York hotels. There is only 1 elevator so it can take a very long time during check-in/check out hours.

Free breakfast was OK. The hot food was average maybe even slightly below. The only highlight : They had a pancake machine that made pretty good pancakes ...for a machine. The rest of the food you would find at any continental hotel breakfast.

Close to Park Slope and only a 20 min taxi ride to Manhattan. There is also the subway and R train.

Transportation Tip: It's not always easy to get a yellow taxi to take you to and from Manhattan. The hotel hooked us up with a 'black car' service our first night. It was only a little bit more expensive than a regular taxi but you were in a clean luxury car and it made the trip much more enjoyable. We used the service the whole time we were there.

“Good Location - Not a good night sleep”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2011

I stayed here over a weekend in October. The room was very small and we could hear everything going on outside, when I requested to move to a room away from the lobby it was met with some resistance, and very gruff attitude. They finally agreed to move me to another room the next evening - however they never notified me when the room was ready. They did comp the parking for both evenings as a gesture of good will. If you are a light sleeper this may not be the hotel for you - however if you can sleep through the noise it is in an excellent location in Park Slope easy access to all the restaurants and shopping.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a higher floor to avoid some of the noise.

“noise, high prices, crummy neighborhood, surly staff”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

on a street of car repair joints, this noise factory is to be avoided at all costs. the room doors don't fit the door frames so light and sound passes from the hallway right into the room. and making it worse, the hallway is where the parties happen, on one night a party until 2am was replaced by another party at 2:30 which ran until 5. the night staff was unsympathetic and didn't even answer the phone for an hour. the one elevator for 8 floors is small and slow so the guests take the stairs and each time that happens the door to the stairway opens with a clang and then shuts with a bang. so all day and evening the door noise is like gun fire, so loud at first I thought someone was coming in my room. And to rub it in and disguise this mess, the rates here were by far the highest I have paid in any Holiday Inn Express
