Date of Stay: 2008 08 23. I travel. A Lot. I usually stay at Newark Airport hotels when I want to explore Manhattan for the weekend. I've never seen Coney Is. so I wanted to stay in Brooklyn.
This property is typical of a vintage hotel ( the elevator has two sets of doors) and it does need some paint and sprucing up. The hotel has one large parking lot and rooms are accessed from the lobby. Some women consider this a safety improvement compared to Motel rooms each with their own parking spot adjacent to the door. I never gave this any thought before. The neighborhood is nice and security is not a concern. The hotel is just off BELT and its nearest neighbor is a separate apt. bldg. You can easily look at street view with Google maps. 3867 Shore Pkwy.
My room was no different than in any other two star Motel 6 type hotel. A tray in the room suggests that this was formerly a Choice branded Comfort inn. The carpets were clean, tv and service modern. Our floor was non smoking, and wireless routers were on each floor, both new additions since new management. The pool, patio, and room pictures were accurate.
There seems to be some renovations in the unopened bar.
At $135/night, it is hard to find cheaper anywhere in NY and I wouldn't stay at those since I REFUSE to use a shared bathroom. Manhattan will be $280 or higher, sometimes for a tiny little box of a room. For those of you that want an explanation of continental breakfast; this is typically Coffee or tea, juice, toast, bagel or muffin, and fruit. Today it was bananas. There is a kitchen and they can cook eggs and bacon if you'd rather have that.
Regarding the numerous reviews; I would suggest you disregard the ones older than one year. NO hoodlums, prostitutes, or loud noise in the halls or rooms. My recent stay at Atlantic City Tropicana had ALL of these. Bottom line; if your budget will allow Doubletree or Four Seasons and this is where you normally stay, you wont be happy in ANY two star hotel including this one. If you are on a budget, this hotel is fine. My major complaint was excessively hard beds. We both work up several times and my ribs hurt. We talked to management and this would be the deciding factor if I use this hotel again. Love to hear your honest not whiny reviews.
