“We felt like locals in Brooklyn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2010

We really enjoyed our stay in Brooklyn at Dekoven Suites. We had the Master Bedroom and it was plenty big enough with enough clothes storage space for us to unpack for the 8 nights of our stay. The bathroom was OK for us but if you are a big person you might find it a little squeezy. Breakfast was very good, plenty of choices and flexible timing, you can eat more or less when you choose in the mornings. Susan and Chalo were excellent hosts and we had opportunity to talk to both of them on a number of occasions and enjoyed our conversations very much.
You can hear the subway trains at night when the windows are open but it does just become "white noise" after a while and they did not stop us sleeping. You probably wouldn't even notice the trains with the windows closed in the winter, or with the aircon on in the summer. The subway station is about 3 minutes walk away and can be up to 35 mins to Herald Square or Times Square. We felt quite safe in the neighbourhood, even catching the trains in the evenings. We walked to Cortelyou Road for restaurants, particularly liked San Remo Pizzeria and Cinco de Mayo (Mexican). Both very reasonably priced, fairly good food and friendly staff.
The houses in the area are lovely, the streets treelined and quiet. It was a great experience to stay in this type of area, most of our friends are very surprised to see this in New York, it's not what we picture. If you do stay here, be sure to take a walk up to the Flatbush area at Albemarle Road, the houses there are just amazing.

“Like coming to stay with dear friends”

Susan and Chaim welcome you into their home with the warmth of a best friend who couldn't wait for you to arrive. The house, nestled in a court of the adorable Ditmas Park section of Brooklyn, is a spectacular rambling home full of comfortable chairs, lovely antiques, and family photos. Our room was huge, with a perfect matress and lots of hot water for the shower. Parking was easy although noone should go to Brooklyn planning to drive much - walking around the neighborhood is a pure treat. Our Mother's day weekend celebration sadly turned to a funeral visit and they accomodated our needs with a very early breakfast of fresh fruit, warm croissants, strong delicious coffee and all we could possibly need. The Dekoven Suites are now our dream home in Brooklyn.

“Comfortable, safe, spacious suite with lots of amenities at a reasonable price.”

We enjoyed our stay at this Dekovan Suite. It is at garden level, with it's own private, lighted entrance, in a lovely turn of the century, much improved home in the Midland section of Brooklyn. There is a large comfortable living room, with a desk, sofa, TV, etc, an eating ell with refrigerator space, microwave, table & chairs, a smallish bedroom with a large walk-in closet, and a remodeled bathroom with shower, washer & dryer, etc. It's not elegant or trendy, but a wonderful, comfortable experience, in a quiet single-family neighborhood. Susan and Chalo were gracious hosts, helpful and sensitive to the needs of their guests. Breakfast, upstairs in the family dining room, was varied and quite adequate, set out for a casual, come whenever you're ready, within a liberal time frame. The nearby subway could be heard, but after the initial experience, the muted sound faded into the background. It is certainly preferable to the sirens, traffic, and neighborhood noise in other parts of Brooklyn. Parking, on the short dead-end street was always available, even if the last space on the street.

“Great people, great place, great value”

We had an appartment for four, with a room for our teenagers and one foor us, the place is quite tastefully decorated, the bathroom is great, you have a corner with a fridge and coffee-tea... TV, washing machine... Luxuous for a very reasonnable price. Private entrance. The breakfast room is quite nice, Susan makes a cake every morning, and you have more than you can eat... Brooklyn is a nice place to visit and if you want to go back to Manhattan, the tube gets you there in around twenty minutes...Anyway Susan is always keen on advising you ! Great souvenir for the Frenchies... We will go back to Dekoven Suites when we go back to NY.
