We really enjoyed our stay in Brooklyn at Dekoven Suites. We had the Master Bedroom and it was plenty big enough with enough clothes storage space for us to unpack for the 8 nights of our stay. The bathroom was OK for us but if you are a big person you might find it a little squeezy. Breakfast was very good, plenty of choices and flexible timing, you can eat more or less when you choose in the mornings. Susan and Chalo were excellent hosts and we had opportunity to talk to both of them on a number of occasions and enjoyed our conversations very much.
You can hear the subway trains at night when the windows are open but it does just become "white noise" after a while and they did not stop us sleeping. You probably wouldn't even notice the trains with the windows closed in the winter, or with the aircon on in the summer. The subway station is about 3 minutes walk away and can be up to 35 mins to Herald Square or Times Square. We felt quite safe in the neighbourhood, even catching the trains in the evenings. We walked to Cortelyou Road for restaurants, particularly liked San Remo Pizzeria and Cinco de Mayo (Mexican). Both very reasonably priced, fairly good food and friendly staff.
The houses in the area are lovely, the streets treelined and quiet. It was a great experience to stay in this type of area, most of our friends are very surprised to see this in New York, it's not what we picture. If you do stay here, be sure to take a walk up to the Flatbush area at Albemarle Road, the houses there are just amazing.
