I stayed in the master bedroom for four nights and it was absolutely wonderful! The room was beautiful and comfortable, and I felt at home the minute I arrived. Susan and her husband are amazing hosts--communication is great, they will accommodate your schedule for arrival, departure, and breakfast, and they are extremely knowledgeable about New York City and they will help you with directions and answer any questions about restaurants/shops/attractions etc. My accommodations were perfect, but if I'd had a problem with anything, I knew they would've taken care of it immediately.
I personally loved the location of the bed and breakfast. It's in Brooklyn, and the neighborhood is very charming. A subway station is less than five minutes away on foot, and the subway ride into Manhattan takes about 20 to 30 minutes. Within walking distance, there are also stores and several restaurants (Subway, pizza, Asian cuisine, and a bakery/deli, to name a few). The neighborhood felt very safe. I'm a petite woman in her mid-twenties who was traveling alone, and I never felt uncomfortable at all. The one time I came back after dark, I saw several college-aged girls and mothers with young children out and about as I walked back to the B&B.
Honestly, there wasn't anything I didn't like. Some people might be bothered by the fact that you can hear the subway trains go by every few minutes if the window is open, but if you close the window, you can't hear them at all. Another thing people might find inconvenient is the roughly half-hour subway ride into Manhattan, but since I was on vacation and had a flexible schedule, it didn't bother me.
Overall, I had a terrific experience, and the next time I travel to New York, Dekoven Suites will my first choice when it comes to a place to stay!
