“Cultured Oasis in the middle of New York City”

I had to comment on what a special place Garden Green B&B was!! My wife and two children came to Brooklyn to attend a wedding nearby and we wanted a relaxing place to stay that we could walk back and forth to the groom's house and to the various wedding/festivity locations. We really got lucky. One of the owners, Laura, welcomed us into her home warmly even after we arrived around 11 pm (due to a delayed flight). She answered all of our questions about how to get to the groom's house and where I could run various errands the following morning. My children and wife were thrilled by the town-house structure of the house filled with antiques, lovely paintings and very interesting books (each room including our bedrooms had a few shelves of a wide range of books). They had a wonderful green garden in the back of the house, which is something that you just can't find in the middle of New York. The next morning the owner, Laura, walked with me a couple of blocks to show me various stores that I needed to go to prepare for the wedding. She gave me some great reviews of the current Broadway and Brooklyn Academy of Music shows and dramatic presentations (we ended up going to see one on Sunday based on her colorful and enthusiastic review--the entire family loved it). The owners had told us before we arrived that they did not serve breakfast as part of the package but Laura showed us where there was a nice bakery with great muffins and coffee right around the corner from the house. They live on a quiet tree-lined boulevard that removes it from the busy Flatbush Avenue that isn't too far away. It has a nice Brooklyn neighborhood feeling to it.

They have very nice furniture in the bedrooms too with nice decorations, photos and art on the walls.

Upon hearing the other owner, Robert, speaking Spanish on the phone, I asked him about it and he regaled me with how he had worked in Latin America for 8 years--it was very warm-hearted. They told us that they get a lot of European visitors to New York. They were very helpful with my two children and didn't seem to mind that they were running up and down the stairs a few times. It was so convenient to stay at such a close place to 7th Avenue in Park Slope and be able to walk back and forth for what was an exhausting 4 days. The owners also exhaustively explained the various subway trains/connections we had to take to go sightseeing in Manhattan. Robert was very up on the current showings of the Metropolitan Museum, MOMA and others. They were hardcore New Yorkers that really knew the city well, but they still had a midwestern friendliness about them that really endeared them to my family. I will recommend this lovely stay to others and hope to return again soon.

“Feels like a home!”

I am very surprised to see such negative ratings- I have found a great place to stay in this B&B- feeling so welcomed and at home! Laura was so helpful and with a gracious personality, especially when my friend was in need of finding a walk in emergency room (hurt his foot) and had many interesting stories to share and was helpful in suggesting how to navigate the city.

I found the best Bagel shop in the world just around the corner too- Bergen's Bagels!

The bathroom (so pretty with little antiques and painted shower tiles) and bedroom (adorned with cute teddy bears and big bookshelf, and grand reading chair) were wonderfully clean and comfortable, and really charming ! :)

It is like being at someone's home, I felt very safe staying there - (it having been my first trip to the big city ever)

GREAT PLACE - not for luxury, nor for special or fancy vacation- but perfect if you simply need a place to rest for the night, and want to feel cozy and comfortable :) that's more than enough for me. :)

“Worst Service ever!”

Wow! After speaking with the owner over the phone my wife and I managed to book a room for our entire week stay in Brooklyn. We were excited, although put off a bit by some of the odd statements the owner had made on our final booking phone call.

If I had read the reviews on here previous to our stay, I would have understood the concerns about the testy owner and her all but overtly rude attitude towards us.

When we arrived at the B + B, we were scolded by the owner because we were 15 minutes late (our flight had been delayed...what can you do?!). After several minutes of discussion and obvious tension, she allowed us in and took us upstairs to show us the room. Only to shortly after deem us as unsuitable to stay here as guests!

My wife and I are reasonable, nice people, and we couldn't believe what was happening. We tried to reason with her, saying that we had no where else to go. Sure we could have gone to another hotel, but we had already booked this room and sent her a deposit check for the first night! After all was said and done, she said that she would let us stay there if we had to, but she would prefer if we found somewhere else to stay come the next day.

Needless to say, we called a friend that lives in Brooklyn the next morning (something we did not want to do because we didn't want to impose for an entire week), and got out of there at the crack of dawn.

WORST B+B EXPERIENCE EVER!

“bed and no breakfast”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2008

Unquestionably the worst B and B we have ever stayed at. Coming in we knew that this B and B did not come with breakfast but we were unaware that food and dink , other than water, were not allowed in the quest room. Additionally, the downstairs common area featured a very cluttered dining room table that discouraged quest usage. Morning coffe was not available, the bed was never made during our 3 night stay and our bathroom was not cleaned. The hosts were quite indifferent and more concerned about keeping the front door locked, with it's malfunctioning lock, than making any attempt to show concern about our comfort. This B and no B was viewed as a high priced fraud. The only redeeming quality here is the location which I suppose allows the owners to get away with their unaccomadationg ways.

“Very nice place”

My husband and I stayed here in April and it was delightful. I am baffled by the negative reviews. The owner, Laura, couldn't have been friendlier and our upstairs room was great. The place has a very homey atmosphere, with piles of books and bric-a-brac scattered around so if you are a serious neat freak, this isn't the place for you. Laura recommended a GREAT restaurant which is right around the corner, Farm on Flatbush. This B&B is steps from the subway and a short walk down 7th avenue brings you to many great little shops and restaurants and the Brooklyn museum is close by as well. When we visit NYC we always stay in Manhattan but Brooklyn has a lot to offer!
