The Grand View is a large home in a quiet location and the rooms are comfortable and very well-kept. As the name implies, it has a grand view. Dave cooks a fantastic breakfast! The entire family is friendly, gracious, and kind. This was my first visit, but my wife and her brothers have stayed there 3 or 4 times because it is such a wonderful place. If they are booked when you try to make reservation, change your dates so that you can stay there.

You will not be disappointed at Grand view B&B. Located just outside Fairbanks, this B&B utilizing a variety of woods in its design, is located in a tranquil setting surrounded by forests, wildlife, and scenic views. Clodagh and David are welcoming and congenial hosts who will make sure you are comfortable and settled in. The rooms are spacious, quiet, and very clean; and the beds comfortable. A nicely arraanged sitting room with TV, WI-FI, and a variety of reading materials is also available. Breakfast offers an ample and delicious array of options; but if available, don't pass up the seafood quiche. And if you have been traveling awhile, laundry facilities are also available. Time in the hot tub under the stars, or the sauna, will provide a relaxing way to end your day. Whether you are seeking a romantic get-away, or you are just exploring, Grand View is a B&B experience you will remember.

Very spacious, clean, casual and comfortable. Guests have complete access to two entire floors,free internet, outdoor deck and spa. Also a washer and dryer- free! (Hosts live on first floor and are friendly, easy going young couple with small children). And it IS a grand view. Up a very high hill and overlooks distant mountains. If we had known it was so nice, we would have stayed longer.

I booked the Grand View based on references from fellow photographers who use the B&B for guests of their tours into the Arctic regions of Alaska. My purpose in visiting Fairbanks was to photograph the "aurora borealis", an elusive item from my "bucket list".

Hosts Clodagh (Clo-dah) and Dave Thompson, who built their B&B new about seven years ago, received rave reviews from my contacts. From the moment that we first met at the Fairbanks Airport, I knew that my photo friends were right about the hosts! Grand, gracious and accomodating!

I selected the last week of January 2008 to visit and easily completed arrangements by e-mail. On arrival at the airport in Fairbanks, I was greeted by Clodagh, by prior arrangement, and within ten minutes drive was at the Grand View.

The Grand View was exactly as billed; it has an absolutely spectacular "grand view" of the Chena River valley and the Alaska Range from its hillside location. My bedroom and “public rooms” were warm, comfortable and very pleasant despite outside temperatures which ranged from -02 on arrival through -30 before our departure,

Each morning Clodagh prepared a full breakfast with cereals, breads, jams, bacon and eggs and coffee or tea, all prepared to order. Breakfasts are served in the dining area off the "great room" with a view of the surrounding woods and valley down below. The spectacular Alaska Range is readily visible from the balcony, the great room and bedrooms in good weather. A number of excellent restaurants are within five miles driving distance. The two lower bedrooms open to the balcony which runs the full width of the house!

David and Clodagh have extensive and interesting travel backgrounds. David worked in the Antarctica for several years and they met while both were working in New Zealand.

While in Fairbanks, I took a tour of the Arctic Circle as well as set up a special viewing site for the aurora borealis (which Clodagh graciously recommended and coordinated for me). Their guest dedicated computer (high speed connection) was great for sending out my photos. They also have a tv, vcr and a large selection of movies in their upstairs lounge. And, they even have complimentary guest laundry service on the lower level.

Clodagh did offer the use of the sauna, in front of the balcony, but I declined! It is open year round to guest use.

“Spectacular” is the best summary that I can give to this beautiful log house with a "grand view" and to the very accomodating hosts Dave and Clodagh.
