“WHAT A NIGHTMARE!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

I went to Fairbanks as part of our Alaska trip. I stayed in the Fairbanks Comfort Inn thinking it would be good due to the fact that it is part of a large chain and not only that, but I have stayed at many Comfort Inns and Comfort Suites. What a nightmare this Comfort Inn turned out to be. Not only was I disenchanted with my stay, but I’m even more disenchanted with the dishonesty of the Accountant from this Comfort Inn, Katy Higgins. I will say I never personally spoke to this person, but I did read what she wrote to my credit card company when I disputed the charges due to the lack of cleanliness of the hotel room that we stayed in (by the way, I do have pictures). The following are excerpts from what was written to the credit card company.

“She was offered service by the GM, which she denied.”

Truth: The first night we arrived quite late since we traveled from Anchorage to Fairbanks on this day visiting many remarkable sites that Alaska has to offer. When we arrived, the beds looked as if they had been slept in. In fact the sheets appeared to have mildew on them. We asked for house cleaning to come and clean. They said house cleaning was already gone for the night. After dealing with this, we finally settled for new sheets and we changed the beds ourselves. The front desk apologized and they stated that they would take care of the room the next morning. We did trust that they would keep that agreement. The next day, after again another fabulous day of visiting areas around Fairbanks and enjoying the beautiful Alaskan weather, we returned to the hotel quite late to find that the room had not been cleaned again. We found Kleenexes left in the bed, the bathroom wasn’t cleaned, and the floor looked like it hadn’t been vacuumed. We did call the front desk again and this time they said the GM would be coming to clean the room himself. We waited an hour for the GM to come and when we called the front desk, they said he isn’t coming – he never comes. I do have pictures of the room as we found it after a glorious day of site seeing. It was too late to search for another hotel at that point.

“If this guest was dissatisfied with her stay, she didn’t have to stay both nights or she could have made her complaint known earlier and the front desk and/or GM would have fully complied with her needs.”

As stated above, we were out until very late in the night both days. One would think that after letting the front desk know of the lack of cleanliness of the room – it would have been taken care of. Obviously from the above comment, the GM already new there were problems.

Also, as a point of interest, there was no heat in the room – it simply did not turn on. After calling the front desk, they stated they had not turned the heat on for the hotel yet.

“She was provided breakfast, a shuttle and other amenities that must be paid for, seeing as she used them.”

Wow, if I would have been provided a shuttle – I could have saved a lot of money since I came from Anchorage and returned to Anchorage. I guess for future guests, this could be worth staying at this hotel for at least one night if you do take advantage of their offer of transporting you to and from Anchorage. If you choose to do this, just make sure you are prepared to clean the room yourself. So, all future guests, it appears this hotel is offering shuttle service to and from Anchorage which is approx. 360 miles (6 hours) if you drive straight through. However, I did not know this was being offered at the time so I rented a car to make this trip.

Breakfast – actually we went to some great breakfast places… we did not eat there. After seeing the rooms, we did not trust the kitchen. The breakfast person was eating her own breakfast in there.

Other amenities…. Not sure what those would have been since we left the hotel early and did not return until late. Sorry, I can’t review those.

“Her guest folio contains no complaints from the first or second day of her stay.”

They clearly do not keep accurate records. It’s a good thing I did.

I clearly would not recommend this hotel. However, if you would like a free trip to Fairbanks from Anchorage, it might be a great deal.

“Good price, great service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2011

We had great rooms, King bed suite. Staff very helpful, arranged transportation although they offer shuttle service to rail station and airport. Good breakfast. We would definately stay there again next time we visit Fairbanks.

Room Tip: We booked early and used senior discount.

“NIce place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2011

We stayed here September 6 2011 and certainly didn't experience the problems of the previous reviewer. It's a nice hotel surrounded by trees, and the rooms are clean, warm, and inviting. And I did deal with "Dan" and "Mr' Park" and found them both to be extremely friendly, professional, courteous, and helpful. Unfortunately in this world, some people are just born miserable and have nothing better to do than to try and cast their angry, pathetic, sorry excuse for a life on someone else.

Thanks Comfort Inn! We will definitely be back..

“Worse Comfort Inn Ever”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011

My husband and I stayed in this motel on August 15, 2011. This has to be the worst motel we have ever stayed in.
We were on our first visit to Alaska and we had been making reservations at name brand chain motels thinking we would be safe finding good rooms. This motel should not be allowed to be under the banner name of Comfort Inn - Choice Hotels.
Upon our arrival my husband had to fill out the registration form and initial stating we would be charged if we smoked in our non-smoking room. This was fine with us since we don't smoke! When we went into our room the smoke smell nearly knocked us down. The girl at
the desk gave us some spray to use to help with the smell.
The room was nasty, blood in the tub, carpet so bad we didn't want our feet to touch it. The
towels had holes in them, the sheets were so thin you could put your finger through them.
When we checked out the next morning I turned in a survey form that they had for
customers to fill out. I asked "Dan" working the front desk what happened to the forms he
said someone would read them. I told Dan of the issues with our room, he said the General Manager John Park knew about the holes in the towels etc. I asked to speak to Mr. Park
and Dan said he wasn't in yet but would hand the survey to him personally.
When we got back home I tried to call Mr. Park, I left four messages with a person at the
motel and one voice message for Mr. Park to call me but he never returned any of the calls,
this was over several days.
I called after a few days and asked the girl that answered what I could do to better reach
Mr. Park since he wouldn't return my calls, she suggested that I might send a email to him. I did send an email it's been over a week and he hasn't answered my email either.
It's bad enough to have a name brand motel in the shape this one is but to be ignored by the General Manger is uncalled for.

“Horrific! Worst Ever!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 July 2011

Unfortunately I booked the room before I had read the reviews, but I hoped they were one-offs or just disgruntled tourists. I was incorrect. The front desk clerk, who claimed she had been there for four years, tried to charge my credit card a second time after I had payed online. Then, after a disturbing conversation about a request in the reservation, we were put in the wrong type of room. Finally, in the next room, there were stains EVERYWHERE and bodily fluids clinging to the wallpaper. The bed linens and arm chair had holes and what looked like blood stains - we asked that the sheets be changed, to be told that ours wasn't one of the nicest rooms. After they changed the linens there were still holes in the coverlet and the sheets were so threadbare you could see through them. My husband said it was lucky I wasn't tall enough to see the top of the shower stall in the bathroom, because something was growing along the tile line. The air conditioner barely worked at all in 80 degree heat. I have stayed in cheap hotels like this all over the country, and this is the worst and DIRTIEST room I have ever had. Spend a little more and go somewhere else!

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else!
