I went to Fairbanks as part of our Alaska trip. I stayed in the Fairbanks Comfort Inn thinking it would be good due to the fact that it is part of a large chain and not only that, but I have stayed at many Comfort Inns and Comfort Suites. What a nightmare this Comfort Inn turned out to be. Not only was I disenchanted with my stay, but I’m even more disenchanted with the dishonesty of the Accountant from this Comfort Inn, Katy Higgins. I will say I never personally spoke to this person, but I did read what she wrote to my credit card company when I disputed the charges due to the lack of cleanliness of the hotel room that we stayed in (by the way, I do have pictures). The following are excerpts from what was written to the credit card company.

“She was offered service by the GM, which she denied.”
Truth: The first night we arrived quite late since we traveled from Anchorage to Fairbanks on this day visiting many remarkable sites that Alaska has to offer. When we arrived, the beds looked as if they had been slept in. In fact the sheets appeared to have mildew on them. We asked for house cleaning to come and clean. They said house cleaning was already gone for the night. After dealing with this, we finally settled for new sheets and we changed the beds ourselves. The front desk apologized and they stated that they would take care of the room the next morning. We did trust that they would keep that agreement. The next day, after again another fabulous day of visiting areas around Fairbanks and enjoying the beautiful Alaskan weather, we returned to the hotel quite late to find that the room had not been cleaned again. We found Kleenexes left in the bed, the bathroom wasn’t cleaned, and the floor looked like it hadn’t been vacuumed. We did call the front desk again and this time they said the GM would be coming to clean the room himself. We waited an hour for the GM to come and when we called the front desk, they said he isn’t coming – he never comes. I do have pictures of the room as we found it after a glorious day of site seeing. It was too late to search for another hotel at that point.

“If this guest was dissatisfied with her stay, she didn’t have to stay both nights or she could have made her complaint known earlier and the front desk and/or GM would have fully complied with her needs.”
As stated above, we were out until very late in the night both days. One would think that after letting the front desk know of the lack of cleanliness of the room – it would have been taken care of. Obviously from the above comment, the GM already new there were problems.
Also, as a point of interest, there was no heat in the room – it simply did not turn on. After calling the front desk, they stated they had not turned the heat on for the hotel yet.

“She was provided breakfast, a shuttle and other amenities that must be paid for, seeing as she used them.”
Wow, if I would have been provided a shuttle – I could have saved a lot of money since I came from Anchorage and returned to Anchorage. I guess for future guests, this could be worth staying at this hotel for at least one night if you do take advantage of their offer of transporting you to and from Anchorage. If you choose to do this, just make sure you are prepared to clean the room yourself. So, all future guests, it appears this hotel is offering shuttle service to and from Anchorage which is approx. 360 miles (6 hours) if you drive straight through. However, I did not know this was being offered at the time so I rented a car to make this trip.
Breakfast – actually we went to some great breakfast places… we did not eat there. After seeing the rooms, we did not trust the kitchen. The breakfast person was eating her own breakfast in there.
Other amenities…. Not sure what those would have been since we left the hotel early and did not return until late. Sorry, I can’t review those.

“Her guest folio contains no complaints from the first or second day of her stay.”
They clearly do not keep accurate records. It’s a good thing I did.
I clearly would not recommend this hotel. However, if you would like a free trip to Fairbanks from Anchorage, it might be a great deal.
