I can start with the positive: it is a nice home with a decent view on the back deck - there it ends. We stayed there for 2 days. The hostess offered us one of the rooms - nice. She said it was her favorite, but since she had no other guests staying - we had our choice. I chose one that was obviously superior - bigger TV, another chair, better bed. Her original offering was not as good - why give me that?
I picked this place because both Fodor's and Frommer's gave it a wonderful write-up - praising the full breakfasts with gourmet quiches. That must have been long ago - because when I awoke there was a loaf of bread down by the toaster, 2 boxes of cereal, and milk about to go bad - 1 day left before expiration. Also a few bananas. Altogether a far cry from the great breakfasts other books raved about. No coffee was made, but I was in a hurry, so I had cereal and toast and left. I was gone all day, but my companion remained. Not once did Connie come up to see if we needed anything - towels or whatever. We were left to die.
The next morning we went down to breakfast - the same loaf, with breadcrumbs all over the cutting board; my coffee cup was still out on the table; the empty cereal box with top opened just sitting there; milk now at expiration date; and the best was when I went to make coffee - the filter was still sitting from who knows when with mold in the coffee grounds! I emptied it and went to the kitchen to have her rinse it. She did - then went back to the gourmet meal she had prepared for her husband and her. There were no other guests either night - and I think I know why. They don't care about them, and it is hard to find down a gravel road away from anything to see or do. With no car, she was stuck there all day with nothing nearby, and Connie never once checked on her. This was the only place that I did not leave a tip! See other 'Alaska 2007 Trip' reviews.
