Arrived by taxi from airport. Greeting straight forward and friendly. Although it is apparent the owner has been doing this for sometime and questions getting a bit tiresome. She did mention the establisment is on the market. Time for a rest and I do not blame her as she has done a great job supplying visitors with genuine care and comfort. The room I was given just a delight, although not really a mans decore, very comfortable and clean including bathroom. Free internet and tea and coffee. Breakfast sufficient and chance to meet other travellers. A little expensive for a solo traveller but hotels cost as well and you dont get the oppurtunity to meet people. I was leaving by train to Denali at the end of my stay at 8:15am. A little packed breakfast was left in the fridge for me. Very thoughtful. Only gripe was the little envelope in the room for tips with words "To let us know we are doing our job right." Fairbanks has little to offer. Trip to the town 'North Pole, to buy junk and sit on Santa's knee. Bars are not very safe. Fights are common place. Safest is Big I. Restaurants are basic and smoking allowed in these as well as bars so be warned. Without car, long walk to major shopping centre which is not in town but on the outskirts. If you are lucky to travel on the trains go the extra and gold class it. Glass dome carriages and bar facilities. A really great railway company.
