“Stay away”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2011

I had made reservations on-line but never got an e-mail confirmation back as the web-site said I would, so I eventually called them, the very abrupt reply I got was that their reservation person was gone, so they took my reservation information over the phone. Two weeks later I had to change my reservation time. The women I spoke to said to just e-mail her the information because she wouldn't remember what was said on the phone. So I e-mailed her. I had to change the reservation time again a week later, so I e-mailed her again. When we arrived, they had no record of the e-mail and were very rude about the fact that we had arrived a day later than they thought. This is when we should have walked out. The room was very small and hot. The whole place was dark and dingy and very outdated. But the worst part was the rude condescending manner in which the owners treated the guests. It was not only us, but we witnessed them talking to other guests in the same way. At check-out we discovered that they had charged us one-nights stay at the time of the reservation and then at check-in had charged us for all the nights of our stay which means we were double charged for 1 night. Fortunately we discovered this before we left and got a refund.

“Rude, obnoxious "innkeeper" and dirty, nasty place”

Upon arriving for our 2 night stay, I was a little shocked to see that in order to get to the office, you had to walk through what looked like a greenhouse that had been through WWIII. It was full of dead, overgrown brown plants that kinda creeped me out. The owner, Paul, who has about as much people skills as a NJ tolltaker, said he didn't have our reservation. We did have a copy of it, but it was on our laptop and didn't have a printout of the res. He said he could show us some rooms. The first one was the honeymoon suite, $120.00, which you had to walk through a landmine of dog poop to get to the front door, It was bigger than we needed, and we really wanted our $85.00 room that we had booked, so he showed us a room in a different building, which we said we'd take, he said this rm was 99.00. At this point I didn't want to argue with him so we took it. Before he left the room I said I smelled cigarette smoke in the room, and he assured us that no smoking was allowed. After being in the room for about 15 minutes and looking around, I noticed that the bedspread had a big tear in it and the towels were dingy grey (they were, at one time, white towels), but the clincher was when our throats were starting to close up from the smell, so I walked backto the office, through the landmine of dog poop and was met with irritation that I was bothering him. He finally gave us the key to the honeymoon suite. This room was really no cleaner than the last, and the towels in this room were even dingier than the last. Breakfast was from 7:30 to 8:30, not a minute later I was informed. Well, not very accomodating when you're running a B&B for people on Vacation!
My husband and I travel extensively and use B&B gift certificates all the time. We usually always check Tripadvisor before booking.... my bad for not doing it THIS time!

“Stay away.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2010

I made reservation in April 2010 for our vacation in Sept. 2010. The reservations consisted of 2 rooms, 1 nights and 1 room, 1 night. Rate $75.00 per room, per night. Upon our arrival we were told while they had a record of the reservations, there were no rooms available. My Credit card had already been charged in May 2010 for $150.00. The husband was the one who waited on us and kept saying that his wife took care of everything, but she was to busy to talk to us. We insisted that we needed a place to stay as everything else was book due to hunting season. So he finally came up with the idea to let us stay in a place they owned blocks away from the inn. He told us that it was a 2 bedroom suite. We told him that would be fine. Well, the suite was only one bedroom, with a old couch bed in the very small living room. The next morning at breakfast we attempted to discuss this with the wife, but her explaintion was " Well, you did have a place to stay didn't you." No apology, no nothing. They did provide the second night room we needed. Nothing was said about any other charges. Well, now a month later they have charged $81.00 to my credit card for the second night. So I guess this means we paid $150.00 to stay on a couch bed!!!!!!! I will pay the $81.00, because "We did have a place to stay". But I will NEVER stay there again.

“NEVER, NEVER, NEVER book any accommodation at 7 Gables Inn”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2010

This was the WORST place I have ever stayed in. My husband and I were doing travelling through Alaska booking every activity and accommodation on line from Australia. Without a doubt, all things were perfect except 7 Gables Inn. This place was the worst I have every in my life stayed in. Mind you we have travelled extensively. Upon arrival the manager (owner) could not be found. We had to wander through the house asking others where he/she might be. Eventually he popped his head up from a musty book and reluctantly showed us in. The room was small, smelly and old. The television did not work and the owner was annoyed when asked if he could fix it. He was rude and gruff. We asked about the bikes that were supposed to be there for people to use. He told he had none. Funny!! When we walked around the back there were at least 25 bikes hanging on the wall. The breakfast was inedible, cold eggs floating in green slime. Cereal was stale and placed in old, scratched containers that didn't open. The kitchen area had garbage stacked up against the wall. I could go on for pages, but the short of the whole thing..... DO NOT GO TO 7 GABLES INN. There are plenty of other great accommodations in Fairbanks. This place should be shut down, there seems to be no accountablility for hygiene, customer care etc. The people running this accommodation need to take lessons in manners and how to clean a room.

“Confortable stay far away from downtown”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2010

We had a very nice stay: we booked a 2 bedroom apartment with ensuite bathroom and jacuzzi.
Rooms were beautifully decorated and furnished even if it wasn't clear from their website that the second one would be a living room with kitchenette and hide queen bed.
we has to ask for linen change because the queen's one were not properly cleaned.
Leicha was very friendly and helped us booking our El Dorado 2 hour tour and giving directions and information.
The main disappointment was to be so far away from downtown: you are compelled to use the car.
