“Incomparable hospitality!”

The massive log timbers (some 2 feet or more in diameter) and spacious, comfortable and quiet rooms overlooking the Chena River would be enough to commend this location, but it was the genuine care and consideration of the proprietors, Dawn and Paul that made our stay truly special. My father was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer's and our trip was kind of a "bucket list" item. His condition makes conversation a bit trying at times, but Dawn and Paul were so kind and patient to encourage him that he felt at ease and had a terrific time. They even joined us on our trip to the North Pole Speedway and sent me a picture of my father and I that I will treasure forever. Alaska was full of warm and welcoming people, none more so than Dawn and Paul. They know and love the area and take great pride in keeping a beautiful and hospitable home. This is a must stay in Fairbanks! Tell them I said hello!

Room Tip: Ask to see Sydney's tricks, the pet cockatoo is quite a ham. The incredible fox pelts were cure...

“My home away from home in Fairbanks”

I've stayed at Anschen Log House twice in the past, but have not reviewed it before. The first time I stayed here was out of necessity. I don't normally stay at B&B's, but stay was more like visiting long lost family than at a B&B. Paul and Dawn were truly warm people who want their guests to have an experience of a lifetime. While staying there I truly felt like I was home. When I found myself in Anchorage the second time, I did not give it a second thought, and headed to Anschen Log "Home" for the night. Dawn was smoking salmon on the back porch by the Chena River, and I had a blast lending a hand. I'm attending a sporting event in Fairbanks at the end of the week, and again plan to stay at my 'HOME AWAY FROM HOME'.

“One Happy Camper!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 April 2011

I arrived in Fairbanks on the scenic, twelve hour train ride from Anchorage (a must-do on your Alaska Travel Bucket List) where, my gracious host, Dawn Andrews, was waiting for me in a warm and very capable 4WD truck which I have dubbed The White Knight! She whisked me away to her lovely and charming log mansion (freshly chinked), overlooking the winter-white Chena River. The frozen tracks decorating the river side and bank belong to Kevin, the WILD, but resident-tolerant moose. Kevin likes to greet his "guests" via the expansive dining room window, especially in the wee early morning hours. After a hearty and delicious HOMEMADE breakfast, a brisk walk around the fir-line neighborhood will clear your woolen head and presto - the day unfolds like a well-told story. There are unlimited amount of activities to participate in and around Fairbanks (do not forget to trek up to Chena Hot Springs: another Alaska Bucket List Must-Do!) and Dawn is more than happy to help you find your own travel niche of wonders, not to mention the delicious Thai restaurants that will make you feel, with your first bite, that you are in the exotic Far East. Dawn suggested I check out the annual Fairbanks Ice Carving Festival (runs from February to March) where world-class artists coax their inspirations out of mammoth-size blocks of ice. I felt I was experiencing the mysteries of the mythical Northern Lights - especially if you go at night! (Please google: website address was too long to include.) Warm, cozy beds, with reassuring, staunch, Paul Bunyan-sized logs, keep out the Arctic cold and protect the weary traveler after a long day of exploration. Sleep deeply and dream of new adventures and days to be spent discovering Alaska's deeply cherished secrets. It's what I did and I loved every minute of my Alaskan Adventure! Thanks Dawn and Sydney for opening up your home and being the icing on my Baked Alaska Cake!

Room Tip: Every room is unique and delightful!

“A Stay Too Short!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 April 2011

For the past 9 months we have spent many hours reminiscing about our wonderful stay at the Anschen Log House. We often speak fondly of the memories made by Dawn and Sydney during our too short stay in Fairbanks. From our initial approach to our walk along the Chena River to our comfortable room and delicious breakfast, we talk of the times when we will return to once again visit with Dawn and make more wonderful memories of our time in Fairbanks. This Bed and Breakfast is unique from the get go. The Log Home is beautiful and warm, the inside filled with all Alaskan. Dawn instantly welcomes you into her home with warm muffins and helpful hints. If you have the chance to visit Fairbanks, the Anschen Log House is a must., but don't forget to bring a nut for Sydney! We will!

Room Tip: All rooms are nice and comfortable.

“Wonderful stay in a Fairbanks log house”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2011

I stayed for 2 nights during Dec - Jan timeframe at Anschen Log house and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. It's a beautiful log house and one can spend hours just taking pictures of the log house and its surroundings. Its located next to the Chena river and is also an ideal place for snow shoeing,

Both of the nights I stayed were after a long strip to the Alaskan bushes and/or an overnight dog mushing trip. The B&B was a perfect place for relaxing and getting ready for the next part of the trip. Dawn is surely a very welcoming and friendly hostess and she even made sure that I have eaten my dinner (or if I would like to have dinner with her). Plus, the breakfasts were plentiful and sumptuous too! I stayed in the Fireview room which was spacious with a comfortable bed and a big closet. Paul was there for one of the nights during my stay and he was very friendly too. Finally, they have an adorable pet cockatoo 'Sidney', who is also a treat to watch.
