The three Baers run this family owned hotel. "Momma Baer" and her two adult sons graciously greet new arrivals and do an exceptional job to accommodate individual needs. While enjoying refreshments in the artistically cozy lobby it soon becomes evident why many of are returnees to this very clean, attractive and especially friendly place. The Baers are long time Alaskans who happily assist new comers to get the most out of their Fairbanks visit.

Great little place, a little off the beaten path, but the rooms are clean and comfortable. The price is right too. The staff is very friendly and long time residents of Fairbanks, so ask them questions!! They will tell you about cool things to do.

nothing special. Big fans,very big, but in Alaska you don't need artificial wind so...clean inside but dirty outside the room. Closed to a night club. Worst place in 2 weeks in Alaska

I ended up at the Golden North by accident when another booking fell through. Luckily they had a room available and it was under $100 so I was pleased with that.

The motel is quite near what looks like a strip club or girly bar so as a single woman I felt a little weird walking when it got dark but there was no noise or anything from the club. It was a bit of a quiet area really - almost too quiet. The guy on the desk assured me they didn't have much trouble in the area but they seemed to be pretty security conscious for people with no trouble.

The motel is quite bare bones but has what is needed - a bed, a bathroom and a tv and internet ... the rooms are old and a bit worn but quite adequate and they seemed clean. There was a bit of a rubbery smell at first but that soon disappeared (probably got used to it).

Those things said, I had a great sleep there and the desk staff were great. I would stay there again but next time I would have a car as in Fairbanks you really need a car to fully explore the area.
