Billie is a cute lady and the hostel was cool too. Initially I didn't get a good impression - I rocked up and had to wait for a bit to see Billie, get set up, and the bed spread was tiny so I got a bit cold during night - but after the first night, it was great. Lovely people staying there, I grabbed a good bed, it's walking distance to the university and really close to the bus. I liked the vibe in the hostel, and I loved the pug dogs - too cute!

Stayed here for one night between Denali and flying out to Bettles. Billie is a lovely, kind person and a couple of the long term residents there are also friendly and willing to show a tourist the best of their town. I really enjoyed my one night here and would most definitely return if I find myself back in Fairbanks.

Billie’s is not your usual Hostel – and it’s difficult to describe.
As the lucky visitor there one gets this special “Alaska Feeling”.
Everybody there feels it but nobody can name it.
The atmosphere in this Hostel is steeped in this “Alaska Thing”.
I stayed there for several days before I rode up to Prudhoe Bay and when I returned – it was the perfect place to chill out and process this experience.
I met so many nice and interesting guys. We spent many nights just sitting at this long table and listening to stories of so many different ways of living and traveling.
Billie - and also her daughter Heidi - are the “heart” of this place and I don’t know how, but they create this incomparable ambience as so many people wrote in the Guest Book:
It’s a place like home – far away from home!
You arrive – and then you are there, right at home.
Everything is easy there, and since most everybody feels at home – there are nearly no guests – but just people who live together for a while and who share the same idea or spirit of living and traveling (either by bike, motorcycle, car or on foot), who are curious about others and the world – like a peaceful community of happiness and serenity.
It’s not the most luxurious hostel I have ever been to, nor the biggest one, and some beds are really soft. But fu**! (as my Jackson Hole buddy would say!) – who cares when he can have one of Heidi’s incredible freshly baked cinnamon rolls with a cup of Billie’s never ending coffee.
It’s one of the best places I have found on my trip - a place I’ll never forget!

My Partner and I loved this hostel, we travelled all over Alaska in Winter and none were as welcoming, friendly and helpful as Billies Back Packers.

She provides excellent coffee, and even gave us our own room because we were a couple at no extra cost.

The set up of the hostel is how a hostel should be and if your lucky you will meet the locals Joe and Barry who are residents and extremely helpful.

We want to go back in Summer to see them all again.

We even saw the Northern Lights from just down the road, (you dont really need to book a trip to see them, just walk to the park)
